Stetson University Head Coach, Men's and Women's Cross Country CH9984 in DeLand, Florida
Under the supervision of the Deputy Athletic Director/SWA , the Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the men’s and women’s cross country programs in accordance with NCAA Division I and ASUN Conference rules and regulations. The Head Coach will support Stetson University by creating and providing an experience of a lifetime through teamwork and relationships to achieve excellence. Serving as a member of the Athletic Department Team, the Head Cross Country Coach will lead within the five core values of the department: Communication, Value People, Integrity, Excellence and Commitment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:
Establish goals and directions for the operation of the program and develop a successful program athletically and academically
Assume a leadership role in department-wide priorities and initiatives
Recruit qualified student-athletes for the program and Stetson University
Supervise all scheduling and traveling arrangements for the program
Assist in the marketing of the cross county program, athletic department, and University through required speaking engagements and alumni outreach initiatives
Cultivate and solicit alumni and donors to financially support the cross-country programs
Manage and adhere to a budget to be determined by the Deputy Athletic Director and Athletic Director
Oversee and manage academic performance of the overall program
Responsible for the academic achievement, retention, and graduation of each student-athlete on the roster
Motivate and inspire student-athletes to excel in the classroom and on the field; attend functions related to the cross country program; prepare reports; evaluate players
Manage a cost-effective and administratively efficient cross-country program
Conform to the highest standards of professional conduct regarding compliance with department and institutional policies and procedures and adherence to the rules and regulations of Stetson University, the ASUN Conference, and the NCAA
Perform other site or job-related duties as assigned by the Deputy Athletic Director and/or Director of Athletics
Required Skills
Effective verbal and written communication
Experience with day-to-day administrative and operational responsibilities of leading and supervising a cross country program; including but not limited to implementation of running and workout programs, budget management, professional development, NCAA rules and regulations, organization skills, and supporting the educational goals and ideals of the members of the cross-country programs
The ability to work effectively with student-athletes, alumni, program boosters, the public and administrative staff
The ability to coach and teach a wide skill range of the fundamentals and theories of cross country to student athletes
The ability to manage all facets of the cross-country programs
This position duties necessitate the physical ability to endure physically strenuous workouts and physical exercise on a daily basis, including standing and/or walking for long periods, bending, stooping, lifting, manual dexterity, lifting of up to fifty pounds
The ability to work hours outside the normal University schedule
The physical ability to travel

Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree
2-5 years demonstrated college coaching experience in coaching cross country
Possess knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations; and a commitment to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the NCAA and ASUN Conference as required.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.

Master's degree
Ability to lead with integrity and positively influence the lives and athletic careers of the student-athletes on the men’s and women’s cross country teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Superb organization skills to effectively manage and lead cross country programs
Work Environment: Duties require: both indoor and outdoor work; direct exposure to prevailing weather, extreme heat, humidity, and extreme cold; physical ability to endure physically strenuous work-outs and physical exercise on a daily basis, including standing and/or walking for long periods, bending, stooping, lifting; manual dexterity; lifting of up to fifty pounds; ability to work hours outside the normal University schedule; physical ability to travel; perceptual demands for sound, form, depth.
Salary Grade: 5
