The ALS paramedic provides stabilization and emergency care of the acutely ill infant, child, adolescent, or adult by ALS level of ground transport. On call hours required. Responsibilities * Collaborates in managing the acutely ill patient through crisis intervention, support, and education. Performs physical observations, documents medical-family history and clinical problem list, and plans care to meet all needs. Using evidence-based practice, performs stabilization and resuscitation, and provides direct care and continuous monitoring during transport. * Performs treatments, procedures, and administers medication under the supervision of the Transport Clinician or physician, and in accordance with policies and procedures. * Maintains documentation of patient assessment, condition, interventions required, and communication processes on the transport record. * Drives the MICU safely to and from transport locations. Assists in organizing rapid transport mobilization and assures appropriate utilization of resources. Maintains fleet, equipment, and supplies necessary to the transport system including routine maintenance and cleaning. * Evaluates methods of practice and recommends modifications to meet patient needs. Searches out opportunities for research and assists in active projects. Identifies education needs and supports education through informal and/or formal teaching. Actively participates in the unit committees, educational opportunities, and projects to assure daily operation and growth. * Establishes professional objectives, pursues professional growth, and attends and actively participates in monthly staff meetings, hospital-based committees, and projects. Successfully completes quarterly skills and recertification requirements.
