Texas Health Denton is a 255-bed, full-service hospital providing convenient care to people across North Texas and Southern Oklahoma since 1987. With more than 1,100 employees and 450 physicians on our medical staff we’re one of Denton County’s largest employers.

We specialize in Cancer Care, Neck & Back Program, Critical Care, Neonatology, CT Cardiac Imaging, Neurology, Electrophysiology, Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Emergency Care, Robotic Surgery, Endovascular Surgery, Stroke Care, General Surgery, Weight Loss Surgery, Heart & Vascular Services, Women & Infants Care, Interventional Radiology and Wound Care & Hyperbaric Treatment.

Texas Health Denton is a Joint Commission-accredited Primary (Level II) Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center, a Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence and a Magnet® designated hospital.

Our four-story specialty center for women and infants features 12 labor and delivery beds, 2 C-section suites along with 6 antepartum and 24 postpartum beds. Texas Health Denton is the city’s only provider of obstetrical and neonatal intensive care services and is the largest provider of obstetrical services in Denton County. The ground floor houses a breast imaging center, outpatient physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation and an internal medicine residency program.

Job Duties

Operations

Plan, organize, and delegate activities as required for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the department including active participation with other hospital and leadership staff to accomplish this objective.

Develop and oversees policies, procedures, and standards that direct department operations.

As required for the service, verify that standards are consistent with hospital, community and nationally recognized evidence based practice standards.

Actively incorporate measures to obtain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and requirements.

Identify and utilize processes and resources that support optimal delivery of data and information to leadership team and staff.

Strategic Planning

Establish priorities for department growth and enhancement based on customer need, research findings, and industry trends.

Effectively market the service to key stakeholders.

Collaborate with nurses providing direct patient care and members of other disciplines at all levels in the development, implementation, and evaluation of program and services.

Fiscal Management

Stewardship of the department resources by fostering a continuous improvement mindset. Drive high quality patient care in a cost efficient manner.

In collaboration with department management and staff, determine the appropriate number and level of staff, balancing competency, patient needs, patient outcomes, patient safety outcomes and productivity guidelines

Monthly review of the Departmental Responsibility Reports (DRRs) to determine adherence to operational performance targets.

Regularly communicate with staff and customer groups, as appropriate, regarding hospital/department goals, results and future direction.

Advocate for appropriate fiscal and Human Resources to accomplish work/goals for the Nursing Division/Department and the Organization.

Satisfaction

Collaborate with all customer groups (patients, department/hospital staff, physicians and other customer groups), to meet and exceed

needs/expectations.

Create and maintain a collaborative work environment (patients, physicians and key stakeholders).

Actively engage customer groups on a regular basis to promote effective customer relationships and communication with prompt resolution of issues and concerns.

Evaluate customer satisfaction on a regular basis to determine gaps between actual results and expectations.

Continuous Improvement

Use benchmark data from internal and external sources to identify opportunities for improvement of care and patient safety.

Identify key performance indicators that need to be monitored and evaluated.

Develop, monitor and evaluate systems that improve organizational performance.

Include department staff in shared KPI goal setting, strategy development and outcomes analysis.

Human Resources

Oversee the effectiveness of the department recruitment and retention program, taking action as necessary to provide an adequate level of qualified staff.

Promote professional growth, development and accountability in staff, students and colleagues.

Track and evaluate staff performance and individual development, holding staff accountable for achieving service expectations.

Coach and mentor subordinate staff in order to improve their performance an expand responsibilities.

Develop and support shared decision-making through the Unit Based Council model in order to develop inter/intradepartmental teamwork and team goal accomplishments.

Recognize and reward individual and team accomplishments.

Identify leadership talent and actively develops leadership skills.

Support diversity objectives of the organization in recruiting and promotion into leadership roles.

Professional Accountability

Network with peers in State/Region/Nation to share ideas and conduct mutual problem-solving.

Promote understanding and effective use of organization management and nursing theories and research.

Demonstrate ethical decision making as a professional behavior that reflects the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses and supports the Department Philosophy of Nursing.

Establish collegial relationships with physicians, unit personnel, and administration.

Integrate team-building strategies and principles of group process in interaction with staff.

Promote the professional image of nursing in demeanor, appearance, attitude and behaviors.

Engage in self-performance appraisal on a regular basis, identifying areas of strength as well as areas for professional/practice development.

Support and promote community health activities among staff, colleagues, personnel, and administration.

Education

Bachelor's Degree Nursing required

Master's Degree Nursing or related healthcare field preferred

Experience

3 years experience as a registered nurse including 1 year in a leadership role (manager or above) required.

Licenses and Certifications

RN - Registered Nurse required upon hire

BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required

CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training required within 90 days of hire and maintained annually

Certified in nursing administration/clinical specialty required within 12 months of hire

Skills

Knowledge of industry standards JCAHO, Medicare, OSHA, Regulatory standards for affected area of responsibility. Knowledge of continuous improvement, change management, Emergency preparedness
