Description of Job

The Auraria Campus is seeking anIT Database Administratorwho will be responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the agency's (20+) SQL Database Servers, which facilitate several agency applications (EMS, TMA, MIP/Microix, MS Access Tables, Tableau, etc.).

MS SQL and Access Database Administration:

  • Install and maintain the performance of all agency databases servers.

  • Develop processes for optimizing and maintaining database security.

  • Performance tuning of database systems.

  • Install, upgrade, and manage database applications.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.

  • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.

  • Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.

  • Available for planned outages/upgrades and emergency response to critical situations during off hours as necessary.

  • Maintain, update, and catalog all customized access databases, queries, and macros.

Database Application Support:

  • Administers the Auraria Campus's Event Management System (EMS).

  • Support and administration of both internal agency users and external campus constituents, external vendors, and others that facilitate the scheduling of all courses and events on campus.

  • Oversees the system processes to facilitate the classroom/finals scheduling process in a timely manner to meet pre-specified deadlines each semester.

  • Provides consultation and guidance to internal and external agencies regarding the policies, configuration, and operation of the internal system as well as similar external systems when requested.

  • Direct and assist institutions with functional testing of the systems while evaluating updates and upgrades to their student information.

    TMA Work Order System:

  • Act as Primary Database Administrator for the Facilities Management TMA Work Order system.

  • Act as technical project lead to perform all tasks within all established change control guidelines for notification, testing, and scheduling.

  • Provide troubleshooting support by working with end users, system documentation, and vendors.

Dashboarding System Integrations:

  • Act as Primary D atabase Administrator for all agency technologies used for Dashboarding systems (Tableau, MS Access/Excel, Power BI, etc.)

  • Perform all tasks related to data migrations, table mapping and the import/export processes needed to facilitate various agency Dashboards.

  • Coordinates testing, scheduling , i nstall ation , configur ation , and monitor ing of developed processes.

  • Provide troubleshooting support by working with end users, system documentation, and vendors. Properly document and archive all related coding, configuration information and procedures necessary to the ongoing successful operation of the agency dashboards.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Professional Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or a related field.Ora year for year experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

  • Strong command of SQL and SQL server tools.

  • Knowledge of database security, backup, and recovery, and performance monitoring standards.

  • Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling.

  • PowerShell and Unix Shell scripting skills.

  • Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS.

  • Current working knowledge of Windows desktop and server operation systems.

  • Experience with technology used at the Auraria Campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Manage and organize multiple tasks and priorities for multiple systems simultaneously.

  • Must be customer service driven and have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate and communicate with a diverse user audience and customer base.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills are also required .

  • Impeccable attention to detail.

  • Have the ability to communicate with personnel from all area s of the organization to include IT T echnologists, end users, management, venders, and customers (CCD, MSU Denver, and UC Denver) .

  • Must have the ability to manage projects effectively to implement technological solutions utilizing agency technologies.
