Position Overview

A Front Row Seat to Innovation The Behavioral Health Specialist is a critical role in the psychiatric care of patients. This position also serves as a system-wide resource, providing direct patient care and safety including supervision and management of children and adolescents. Level 6 Surgical Inpatient Unit is a 72-bed unit encompassing three different service lines and 14 sub-specialties. With an impressive team comprised of providers, nurses, clinical assistants, behavioral health specialists and inpatient service specialists, Level 6 specializes in providing care to patients with complex surgical needs including trauma, solid-organ transplant, burns, general surgery, plastics, urology, colorectal, bariatrics, neurology, neurosurgery, epilepsy monitoring, orthopedics and rehabilitation. Patients on Level 6 receive state of the art interventions and treatments, as well as specialized nursing care. Due to the variety of patients that can been seen on Level 6, team members can expect to care for acutely ill patients that may otherwise be seen in a step-down unit. As a result, Level 6 clinical team members exhibit exceptional time management and delegation skills. The Level 6 team consistently demonstrates excellent teamwork and camaraderie evidenced through high employee engagement. Level 6 offers an incredible opportunity to care for a variety of patients within a specialty, while fulfilling the desire to critically think, challenge one's skills and make a life-long impression on the life of a patient and their The Level 8 Inpatient Medical Unit is a dynamic 48-bed general medical unit serving a wide variety of patient populations from birth to early adulthood. We specialize clinically in the areas of digestive health, renal impairment, infectious diseases, behavioral health, endocrine and metabolic disorders, and immune deficiencies to name a few. The Behavioral Health Specialist provides 1:1 or 2:1 support for patients. They implement clinical care responsibilities in accordance with unit/departmental policies, procedures and standards under the supervision of a registered nurse. They work as a part of a passionate and intelligent interdisciplinary team of nurses, clinical assistants, inpatient service specialists, and providers. They provide comprehensive and integrated care of all patients with overlapping medical and behavioral health diagnoses, including but not limited to suicide ideation and/or self-harm. Our Behavioral Health Specialists participate in crisis intervention utilizing verbal and physical de-escalation of potentially unsafe or aggressive behavior and engage with patients using identified coping skills and encourage the use of therapeutic interventions as appropriate. These patient populations challenge us to exercise critical thinking, clinical decision making, and clinical judgement. Certification(s): Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR certification Job Highlights: Provides direct patient care and management of children and adolescents while under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed psychiatric professional. Leads, monitors and collaborates educational and therapeutic groups for patients. Participates in clinical rounds, maintains communication with unit or department leadership. Responds as part of the Behavioral Assistance Resource Team; provides assistance to patients, family members or visitors 18 years of age and younger exhibiting the potential for harm to self or others. Ensures proper documentation of patient progress; completes 15-minute patient checks; provides one-to-one patient observation and or milieu management..
