Description of Job

The salary range for this position is:

$34.59 - $36.32 Hourly

$2,766.92 - $2,905.60 Biweekly

$5,995.00 - $6,295.47 Monthly

The Fraud Unit exists to receive, identify, and investigate reports of fraud and fraudulent activity within the Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) Division, including handling incoming referrals and tips regarding allegations of FAMLI program-related fraud. The Fraud Early Warning (FEW) work unit conducts intake and initial screening of cases referred to FIU to identify and refer cases requiring further investigation. Case screening is conducted to assess and complete referrals to the appropriate work unit or for transfer to an external work unit outside of the ACE branch. (i.e. alternate FAMLI unit/branch, etc.) Additionally, this work unit, as required, provides investigative and logistical assistance both within the Fraud Investigations Unit, within other branches and units of FAMLI, as well as to local, state, and federal agencies, and provides a base of specialized expertise upon which other law enforcement and regulatory agencies may draw.

This position, Criminal Investigator III (Crim Inv III) exists to receive, identify, and preliminarily investigate reports of criminal and regulatory violations affecting the administration of the Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program within the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment (CDLE). Duties primarily consist of regulatory and criminal investigation case screening resulting from tips, reports, and referrals of FAMLI-related fraudulent activity both from within and external to the FAMLI program.

The position conducts initial assessments of investigations related to fraud/forgery, waste, abuse, and other misconduct within this program. Work includes identifying whether fraudulent circumstances exist within referred case investigations by reviewing and assessing suspect and witness information, examining Complainant and Respondent records, verifying the authenticity of documents, evaluating existing evidence, and presenting the cases/investigations to the Fraud Investigations Team (FIT) for further, comprehensive investigation. Work assignments and investigations should be conducted by the Criminal Investigator III (Crim Inv III) with limited input or guidance for all required functions, however, on occasion when complex or advanced-level functions, case investigations, or assessments requiring advanced level processes or experience require additional collaboration and/or guidance from a work lead, or supervisor within the work unit, the investigator will notify them and seek assistance. The Criminal Investigator III (Crim Inv III) position is intended to be filled by an individual who has a combination of work experience and education in the realm of Criminal Investigations, and who can operate in a fully autonomous role with minimal guidance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Only:

Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position such as law enforcement, investigative experience, legal, criminal and civil fraud investigations relative to the financial industry.

OR

Education and Experience:

A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, certification, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to six (6) years such as law enforcement, investigative experience, legal, criminal and civil fraud investigations relative to the financial industry.
