Xcel Energy Fuel Supply Operations Intern in Denver, Colorado

Position Summary
Fuel Supply Operations oversees the procurement of solid fuels and fuel oil for Xcel Energy. Xcel Energy operates a fleet of over 10 solid fuel power stations that burn coal, wood, RDF (municipal waste), and other materials. The Fuel Supply Operations group manages contracts with various mining companies, railroads, and waste wood suppliers.
An internship with Fuel Supply Operations typically involves learning about various types of generating facilities and electric system operations. Fuel Supply Operations is part of Xcel Energy’s Commercial Operations organization, which encompasses fuel supply, gas planning, gas supply, system operations, energy trading, trading analytics, and market operations. A successful intern is well-positioned to transition into various full-time positions at Xcel Energy. Former Fuel Supply Interns have gone on to become successful full-time employees in Xcel Energy’s gas planning and asset management departments.
This Internship will be working out of Denver, CO and will start on a part time basis during the 2024-2025 school year beginning January 2025. This position has the potential to be full-time during the summer months.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Fuel Supply staff to analyze data, compile reports, and engage with suppliers.
Through practical operations experience and mentoring, successful candidates will develop significant professional confidence and interpersonal skills.
Requirements
Seeking candidates pursuing degrees in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, or other fields with an emphasis on analytical thinking (e.g., mathematics, social sciences).
Applicants with familiarity in Excel spreadsheets are preferred.
Experience with macros, AI, or report automation is also beneficial.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $20.40 to $27.20 per hour
