Renewables Senior Electrical Engineer

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for our Renewables Business Unit. This position will report to an existing POWER office with the ability to work remotely from a mutually agreed upon location.

In this role, the successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary engineering team leading and executing the electrical power system design for renewable projects. The position involves creating and issuing construction drawings and specifications, bills of material, power system studies and reports. Well qualified candidates will demonstrate solid working design knowledge of grounding, lightning and surge protection, lighting, protective relaying, panelboards, low and medium voltage switchgear, medium voltage unit substations, pv solar, BESS collection systems, wind collection systems, distributed energy resources (DER), and microgrids. Thorough knowledge and experience with the NESC, NEC, NFPA documents, and applicable IEEE standards is required. Experience with modeling electrical systems and running power system studies using ETAP, PTW, or EasyPower is strongly preferred. Team leadership, mentoring, excellent communication and presentation skills, personal motivation, a positive attitude, and the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently are key attributes. An ability to create accurate estimates of engineering effort, compose client proposals, and drive projects to successful completion within budget and schedule constraints is needed. The applicant will interface directly with internal and external clients and some travel to vendor and client sites will be required.

Responsibilities include but may not be limited to :

  • Grow and manage relationships with renewables clients.

  • Mentor less experienced staff in renewables project execution.

  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of low and medium voltage renewables projects design across the distribution, protection, telecommunications, and studies disciplines.

  • Cross-discipline reviews of associated business units within and outside of Power Delivery.

  • Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner.

  • Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects, including cost estimating.

  • Working with Project Manager (PM) and Department Manager (DM) ensuring quality standards are met.

  • Assisting the DM in evaluating the upcoming resource needs for specific design activities.

  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients across multiple offices.

  • Leading smaller proposal efforts and assisting on larger efforts.

Required Education/Experience:

  • BSEE/BSCE or BSEET/BSCET degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option or equivalent experience.

Desired Education/Experience:

  • Professional engineering license with the ability to become licensed in additional states.

  • Ten (10) + years of experience in the design and operation of PV solar projects, BESS projects, microgrids, DER projects, and wind farm projects.

  • Capable of performing all electrical engineering tasks associated with the project including proposals, design, engineering calculations, cost estimating, client reviews, and construction support.

  • Ability to work as a team with multiple discipline leads, PMs and others to manage all the Electrical efforts for the project team while supporting the needs of other disciplines to effectively coordinate or lead a project.

Base Salary Range: $80,000-$120,000

The range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike. The range provided above does not include additional compensation such as bonus, health benefits, vacation, 401(k) match, etc.
