Principal Financial Group Product Manager (Financial Planning) in Des Moines, Iowa
What You'll Do
We are looking for a Product Manager to join our Individual Solutions team within Retirement and Income Solutions. In this role, you'll own the execution and ongoing development of a financial planning solution. You'll partner with our product teams, engineering, project management and marketing partners while demonstrating curiosity, open-mindedness, and motivation to gain exposure and experience in all phases of the product lifecycle. You'll have the opportunity to:
Support and drive product strategy in alignment with Principal’s enterprise strategic imperatives and department objectives
Proactively identify and enhance components of the financial planning solution to achieve desired results, while establishing product practices and driving outcomes in collaboration with technology leaders and teams
Collaborate to create, refine, and prioritize technical work for engineering teams, driving the selection of features and managing the product backlog while ensuring alignment with desired goals and monitoring progress to completion
Foster curiosity and forward-thinking by challenging the status quo, encouraging innovation, and being approachable, while influencing and identifying solutions to continuously improve practices and methods for delivering capabilities across the enterprise
Build strong partnerships across enterprise teams. Garner support, trust, and engagement for teams to proactively overcome barriers.
Help and coach teams to be empowered to own solutions being crafted versus directing what needs to be done and how it should work; Spread knowledge and inspire change

Who You Are
2+ years of business, technology, or product management experience; or equivalent demonstrated through the following: work experience, military experience, or education
1+ years experience working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment with engineering teams and partners
Experience with modern product discovery and product delivery methodologies
Good communication skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate with partners at all levels, experience collaborating, influencing, and negotiating in a professional team environment, including demonstrating varied perspectives and data to inform actions.
Strong critical thinking/vision, collaboration and decision-making skills along with business savviness and relationship management abilities
Experience successfully leading multiple products and/or competing priorities
Experience considering diverse perspectives and use of customer, user, or partner data and insights to advise decisions and actions
Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
Financial Services/retirement industry experience
Understanding of the needs of individuals, retirement market dynamics and operations, competition, and trends impacting both the retirement recordkeeping industry and the retail advisory world
High-level technical understanding of how third-party software as a service is used within your area of scope
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$77350 - $182400 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

We’ll consider talent at the next levels (Product Manager 2 and Senior Product Manager I) with the right experiences and skills.
Work Environments
This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
