Summary:

This is a temporary, full-time position supported by federal grant funds. This position is responsible for assisting and supporting Children’s Justice staff with project implementation, assessment, and other requirements as dictated by current federal funds. The successful candidate will perform professional level legal work.

Responsibilities:

Performs extensive electronic and manual research of laws, legal opinions, policies, regulations, and legal texts, and precedents.

Develop reports or memoranda on child welfare matters with conclusions and recommendations based on legal research.

Assist in responding to child welfare open records requests.

Draft administrative directives as it pertains to child welfare.

Reads, logs, and tracks legislation that could impact child welfare. Collects and shares feedback and possible implications.

Reviews and/or implements legislation related to child welfare.

Creates, reviews, and updates child welfare policies, procedures, manuals, bench book, and other legal materials.

Drafts and reviews contracts, agreements, orders, memorandums, RFPs, and other reports or forms for Iowa Children’s Justice.

Support Iowa Children’s Justice staff in court observations, case reviews, Family Treatment Court, and training events as needed.

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in Iowa.

Experience equal to two years of full-time work in the practice of law, including experience as a law clerk.

Knowledge and experience in the practice of child welfare law is preferred.
