WSP USA Assistant Vice President, Traffic Engineering in Detroit, Michigan

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Supervising Traffic Engineer to oversee our traffic engineering team in our Detroit, MI office. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with technical, business, and managerial expertise. This position offers leadership opportunities, and key responsibilities include business development, project management, building/maintaining client relationships, technical oversight, and helping staff in the traffic engineering develop their careers. The successful candidate should have experience working in groups and have a desire to participate in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, as the traffic engineering group in our Detroit office works closely with the ITS, planning, and civil design groups. The candidate should have initiative and a strong desire for learning and sharing knowledge.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Leading business development activities to maintain and expand the backlog for our traffic engineering business in Michigan

• Serve as project manager for traffic engineering projects

• Participate in the development and maintenance of client relationships in Michigan

• Oversee project delivery and quality assurance/quality control

• Collaborate with other managers and market sectors in the Michigan offices and throughout the Central Region

• Participate in community, civic and client related events, including professional societies

• Review and approve traffic engineering staff weekly timesheets

• Conduct annual goal setting sessions and annual performance reviews with traffic engineering staff

• Maintain positive Team relationships

Minimum Qualifications:

• 10 years of transportation engineering experience (with emphasis on traffic operations and safety)

• B.S., Civil Engineering or related engineering degree

• Professional Engineer (PE) in Michigan

• Strong knowledge and understanding of scope, schedule, and budget

• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification

• Experience in ITS design

• Experience in intersection, signing and pavement marking design

• Experience in maintenance of traffic design and traffic management plans

• Knowledge and experience with any of the following software is a plus: Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, Microstation, ISATe, or traffic signal

controller software

• Experience managing and delivering projects for Michigan clients, preferably Michigan DOT

• Dynamic leadership characteristics, within the company and with clients

• Excellent communication, technical, and business development skills

• Local candidates preferred
