This role functions as a Veterans’ Career Advisor (VCA), managing responsibilities within the Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) and other federal or state employment and training grants. This position operates in collaboration with the Michigan Works Agency (MWA) System and many other federal, state, and local partners. The position requires general knowledge of roles, policies, and laws that regulate the operation of JVSG programs and other federal or state employment grants. The role entails an equal allocation of fifty percent effort to each program, focusing on delivering individualized career services within a case management framework. This dedicated approach aims to support a specific veteran population, enhancing their employability by providing critical services they might not otherwise access. At the 9 and E10 levels the employee performs in an independent location under supervision of the Employment Services Manager 14, a wide range of employment service assignments in a developing capacity.

Must be a qualified service-connected disabled veteran or a qualified eligible veteran in accordance with priorities set forth in Title 38, Chapter 41 of the United States Code as amended by Public Law 107-288.

Alternate Education and Experience

Four years of office support experience with public contacts, in a business or industrial setting, including two years equivalent to the experienced (E7) level, may be substituted for the education requirement.

Salary for this position is entirely federally funded. Under federal law an employee whose salary is entirely federally funded may not be a candidate for public office in a partisan election.

Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications

Must have a valid driver's license. Job requires considerable travel by automobile.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
