Energy Systems Group Boiler Operations Technician in Dover, New Jersey

ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for a Boiler Operations Technician to join our Operations Services team at our Picatinny Arsenal location. The position is onsite.

The Boiler Operations Technician performs operations, maintenance, and repair of systems and buildings at company and customer sites ensuring reliable, efficient, and cost-effective long-term operation.

The essential functions of the position include:

  • Operate and maintain one or more systems that provide an establishment with such services as heating, steam, high temperature water, and/or electricity
  • Duties involve:
    • Observing and interpreting readings on gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of the system's operation,
    • Adjusting controls to insure safe and efficient operation of the system and to meet demands for the service provided,
    • Recording in logs various aspects of the system's operation,
    • Keeping the boilers, machinery, and equipment of the system in good working order.
    • Treating water systems (boiler, chilled water, condensing water, etc) with chemicals and analyze for such things as acidity, causticity, and alkalinity.
    • Drawing fluid samples (oils, lubricants, fuel, etc.) from equipment and perform tests or deliver for testing by others.
    • Performing diagnostic tests and measurements on equipment
  • Perform routine daily maintenance, checks, and recording readings of key information for the COGEN Plant as required by DPW and NJ State Regulations
  • Have general knowledge of engine diagnosis and small repairs as need to keep equipment online
  • Maintain high pressure steam lines including but not limited to traps, strainers, expansion joints, insulation, and keep clear of vegetation where needed
  • Maintain equipment in accordance to the Operation and Maintenance manuals
  • Maintain and diagnose water treatment systems
  • Performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skills and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work
  • Diagnose and repair equipment in a timely manner
  • Work a rotating on-call schedule which includes nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work after hours for service/emergency calls to maintain working equipment
  • Responsible for safe work practices and implementation of operational excellence

Your background includes:

  • 5 years of related experience
  • High School Diploma, GED, Vocational/ technical training school
  • Possess New Jersey Low Pressure Boiler Operator's license

A bonus to have:

  • 10 years of related experience in the Energy Services, Performance Contracting, and/or HVAC Industry.
  • Possess steam boiler operator's license from a governmental agency (state or local - e.g. New Jersey High Pressure Boiler Operator's license) or Fourth Class Engineer under National Institute for the Uniform Power Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE)
  • OSHA 10 Training
