Serco Technical Project Manager (IT) in Downsview, Ontario

Position Description

Seeking a technical project manager with a strong technical background to lead and manage complex projects.

You will be responsible for all project management, project administration, stakeholder communication and coordination on custom projects. Key responsibilities include managing all phases of project lifecycles from initiation to closure ensuring that projects are completed on time, within scope and within budget while ensuring adherence to quality standards. Will lead the communication between technical teams and stakeholders, identifying risks, and implementing strategies to mitigate them. Strong leadership, technical expertise, and project management skills are essential for this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage multiple complex IT projects including application and infrastructure upgrades, software development, system integration, hardware rollouts etc.

  • Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan.

  • Determine and define clear deliverables, roles and responsibilities for staff members required for specific projects or initiatives.

  • Collaborate with client and Operations to understand their requirements and expectations.

  • Manage technical teams, ensuring they understand project objectives, milestones, and deadlines. Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.

  • Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress.

  • Maintain Project deliverables and Project Management documents – Plan, Status Reports, Decision Logs, Risk Register and other documentation highlighting project steps and status for daily and weekly meetings with team/leadership.

  • Identify , Assess and mitigate project risks and challenges in project delivery. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure projects stay on track and in budget.

  • Work with manager to track project costs in order to meet budget constraints.

  • Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project execution.

  • Monitor progress and make adjustments as needed and identify areas for improvement.

  • Establish and enforce quality standards for project deliverables. Conduct regular reviews to ensure compliance with technical specifications and organizational standards.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements.

  • Strive to exceed client satisfaction by delivering high-quality technical solutions.

  • Manage projects in a disciplined approach including schedules, critical‐path, conflicts, meeting minutes, issue logging, and tracking. Lead and direct support/development resources and partners.

  • Prepare system development cost estimates and schedules.

  • Create SOWS for RFIs, RFPs for vendor engagement and work with procurement to solicit responses and evaluate.

  • Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables.

  • Other related duties relevant to this position as may be required.

  • Comply with all regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to the operations including occupational health and safety, environmental, drug and alcohol, and quality.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience (20+) in information technology.

  • Overall 15+ years in Information Technology.

  • Minimum of 10 years in project management with at least 5 years in a senior role.

  • Demonstrated understanding of Project Management processes, strategies, and methods.

  • Excellent experience in SDLC Methodologies, Agile, SCRUM, SDLC / Waterfall.

  • Experience in successfully leading IT projects and programs to on-time, on-schedule and within budget

  • Strong technical background with experience in rollout of software projects, hardware and software upgrades/rollouts, cloud migrations.

  • Technically competent with various software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), Microsoft Project, JIRA, SharePoint.

  • Experience and managing various projects and team sizes, including internal and external resources, across business and technology organizations while holding team accountable for performance.

  • Excellent communication (written, verbal and presentation) and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong experience presenting to executive sponsors and demonstrated communication skills; both written and oral with technical and non-technical staff, all levels of management.

  • Adept at maintaining Project management documentations including Project Plan, Status Reports, Risk Register, Decision Logs etc.

  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Flexible with proven ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • PMP Certification and Agile Scrum Master Certification is a plus.

  • Familiarity and experience supporting the Government of Ontario IT Standards (GO-ITS) is a plus.
