Job Information

Amazon Software Development Engineer - Test Automation & CI, Amazon Linux in Dresden, Germany

Description

Come build the future of Linux at Amazon with the Amazon Linux Team!

If you are an experienced software developer who is passionate about building the platform to support the world’s premier cloud computing environment, then this is the job for you.

Utility Computing (UC)

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services

Key job responsibilities

Software Development Engineers work with technical leaders to refine technical direction, and then follow through with detailed analysis, designs, and superior code. They are equally comfortable leading small, focused project teams as well as making major direct contributions to the project. They deliver features with minimal direct oversight.

The baseline individual for this role will be entirely comfortable with the Linux operating system and programming languages such as Python and scripting languages such as Bash in a Linux environment. Experience with Linux package management, version control systems, automated build processes, and software automated testing are a must. Another must is experience in managing and provisioning of infrastructure through code. An understanding of and experience in contributing to open source projects is a plus.

You will write, read, review and iterate over narrative documents for planning and technical designs. You will write code that implements the technical concepts that you and your team strategized and reviewed. You will also lead other engineers around you to contribute to your implementation.

A day in the life

You enjoy our flexible work schedule and start working at a time in the morning that aligns best with your private situation. We have a tram stop directly in front of our office building, alternatively a private car park or our spacious bike locking room with separate showers.

For lunch, people often go out in groups, or meet in our winter garden or up on the roof terrace. The occasional coffee chat or water-cooler talk keeps you connected to neighboring teams.

If its Friday you will either give or attend a technical talk and enjoy some pizza or barbecue after.

About the team

The Amazon Linux team is responsible for the design and maintenance of all of Amazon's core compute platforms, with a special focus on EC2, the Elastic Compute Cloud that is the basis for much of Amazon Web Services (AWS). We're also responsible for tools associated with the performance characterization, qualification, build and deployment of our Linux platforms.

This team automates the continuous separation of signal from noise when executing hundreds of thousands of automated tests for releases of Amazon Linux - come help us make history!
