Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector, Tactical Space Systems Division (TSSD) is seeking a qualified Senior Principal Systems Engineer for the role of Mission Systems Lead for a satellite mission program. This position is located on-site in Dulles, VA. Successful candidates for this position will work in a technical lead role for the Space Security business area. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting, cutting-edge programs and new mission areas.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and review Mission requirements, verification plans, and architecture at all levels of the System

  • Coordinate with all levels of the program to ensure a comprehensive mission system design

  • Provide subject matter expertise for mission systems to the program

  • Develop and improve qualification and on-orbit system-test procedures

  • Perform demonstrations and conduct briefings explaining test procedures and processes

  • Develop test and verification strategies that help minimize program cost and technical risk

  • Define test and verification methods, events, and constraints for all requirements; develop and manage the overall Mission System Test Plan.

  • Provide technical oversight to integration & test (I&T) efforts to ensure that the overall I&T program will adequately confirm requirement compliance.

  • Design test and validation approaches to ensure the mission system fulfills its operational objectives and stake-holder requirements in its intended operational setting.

  • Work with customer and program leadership to coordinate, schedule, and ensure readiness to perform mission test activities

  • Execute test verification and analyze results against established criteria to determine if the system being examined is compliant

  • Utilize systems engineering database tools and software to manage test results and artifacts in accordance with contractual requirements

  • Support final system sell-off of the completed verification and validation program to the customer.

  • Lead by example and be willing to mentor, coach, train, guide, direct, and advise teammates

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 8 years of experience; M.S. in STEM or related area and 6 years of experience

  • Must have US Citizenship with current or active Top Secret/SCI Clearance at time of application

  • Experience in mission operations, system architecture development, and CONOPs.

  • Experience in RPO mission design and satellite ground software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating the efforts of diverse stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in any modeling and simulation tools: Cameo, STK, Matlab, AFSIM, Python

  • Experience in Space Domain Awareness mission areas

Salary Range: $133,000 - $199,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
