The Minnesota State Veterans Cemeteries provide nationwide leading compassionate care and service to families during their time of need. We are committed to maintaining a peaceful and respectful environment in our cemeteries. This position is located in Saginaw, Minnesota.

The incumbent in this position serves as the general field supervisor (Cemetery Foreman) over all field operations at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery – Duluth. They have full responsibility and authority over assigned activities related to the core mission of the cemetery; to include interment operations, grounds maintenance, operation of a complex irrigation system, physical plant maintenance and operations, equipment maintenance and operations and the overall cemetery safety program. The incumbent will also act as the Cemetery Administrator in their absence.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced leader to oversee the daily operations of our cemetery. The ideal candidate will manage staff, ensure the upkeep of grounds, and provide compassionate support to families during their time of loss.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of cemetery staff.

  • Manage day-to-day interment operations, cemetery grounds/maintenance activities, and staff performance.

  • Participation and oversight in cemetery interment operations, ensuring all details are handled with accuracy, care, and compassion.

  • Participation and oversight in the maintenance of the cemetery grounds, including landscaping, gravesite maintenance, and facilities.

  • Effective communication between staff, the public and community partners.

  • Assist Veterans and their families by providing support during their time of need.

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of experience in one of the following areas:

  • Grounds maintenance and/or landscaping at a public or commercial complex of buildings and grounds.

  • Building and/or equipment maintenance at a public or commercial complex of buildings and grounds .

AND

Experience must include one (1) year providing direct supervision OR two (2) years leadwork demonstrating the following:

  • Influence, motivate, and challenge others, adapting leadership styles to a variety of situations.

  • Organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine short or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitor progress and evaluate outcomes.

AND

  • Valid Class D Driver’s License

  • Valid noncommercial pesticide applicators license for categories A (core), E (turf/ornamentals) and P (vertebrate pest control) or the ability to obtain the required commercial pesticide licensure in categories A/E/P at the earliest opportunity thru the University of MN Extension Service within the probationary period.

  • The ability to work in inclement weather conditions.

  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft applications including Outlook and Word

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in any of the following areas:

  • Agronomy/horticulture

  • Cemetery operations

  • Construction project management

  • Turf management
