DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:
This position is open to Colorado residents and non-residents applicants.
This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).
New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
About the Position
As an Engineering/Physical Sciences Technician II, under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer and Resident Engineer, you will apply and implement engineering theories, principles, and standards and will review the work and documentation done by consultants on projects. This role assists in in scheduling, overseeing, checking, inspecting, testing, documenting, measuring, and surveying on construction project work.
Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Applies plans, specifications, M & S Standards, and project notes in the inspection of the work progress by contractors to assure conformance to specifications. During inspections, identifies issues for correction and helps define and implement solutions. Prepares a complete and accurate account of pay quantities, project activities, correspondence, conditions, and problem resolutions by completing various written and computer-generated reports. Utilizes Gmail, AASHTOWare, MS Project, MS Word, Excel, ProjectWise, SAP and project inspection/testing specific computer software programs. Obtains dimensions of placed, constructed, and/or installed items and calculates required areas, volumes, etc. Evaluates contractor materials to determine the acceptability to be incorporated or used in the constructed project. Reviews and checks the accuracy of highway construction project plans and specifications during design of a project and advises the designer of project plan discrepancies. Makes plan recommendations to Project Engineer based on field experience while considering construction phasing and constructability of the project. Puts together traffic control plans. Assists with preparing project advertisement packages by attending meetings, organizing documentation, producing cost estimates, and preparing construction schedules. Learn to prepare and maintain construction schedules using CDOT scheduling software, including milestone dates and construction drawdown schedules. Assist with analyzing contractor schedules for resource problems and other issues to recommend solutions. Assist with drafting change orders and minor contract revisions. Check calculations and tabulated quantities su marized in plan. Acts as project tester of materials (soil, hot mix asphalt, concrete, etc.) incorporated into active construction projects, assuring that all requirements of CDOT Field Material Manual are met. Supports calculations, field measurements, etc. though understanding of engineering standards, standard practices, and applicable engineering methodologies to assess project construction budgets and report discrepancies or concerns to the Project Engineer. Mentors and oversee project testers, including training inexperienced project personnel on appropriate procedures, documentation, and input into LIMS. Checks plan sheets, project specifications, project correspondence, and payments during construction phases of the project., assuring accuracy and compliance with established standards and policies on all plans by consultant.
