Parking Enforcement Technician
Essential Job Duties:
Maintain knowledge of the Enforcement duties including citation equipment, immobilization equipment and the municipal code Enforce City parking ordinances; issue citations or notices for violations; appear in Municipal Court to defend issuance of citation, as necessary. Enforce parking restrictions; monitor vehicles parked in time zones; cite vehicles exceeding time limits or other municipal restrictions. Issue warnings, written and verbal directions, and help residents and visitors as a City ambassador; encourage compliance with city regulations related to: bicycles, skateboards, smoking, signage, sidewalks and littering. Prepare and maintain records and reports on violations and actions, as requested. Assist with traffic control in central business district as needed. Communicate with other City departments including police, animal control, street department and water department using a two-way radio, telephone and email; communicate with central dispatch on criminal or civil violations. Operate vehicle immobilization equipment and follow up as necessary with PD and do daily vehicle checks on booted and /or abandoned vehicles. Provide effective and polite assistance/directions to the public. Collect Vacancy Rate Data as assigned (driver or counter) Install and retrieve meter bags for special use as required Provide notifications and communication to other departments as needed. Clean vehicles inside and out weekly as a shared duty. Operate office equipment and computer equipment as needed, including email communication. Maintain a clean, clutter free, shared workspace Provide excellent customer service. Respond to and resolve citizen inquiries and complaints acting as City Ambassador and representative. Perform the daily run for deposits, cashier change, mail and special deliveries for the department, as needed. Attention and maintenance to meter physical appearance (stickers, loose heads, signs, shrubs, paint, graffiti and so on) While on walking or vehicle patrol, act as the eyes and ears of all other City Departments to help resolve and report issues to the appropriate contacts or the supervisor, including observation of the sidewalks and roads for safety issues. Implement recommendations of the Comprehensive Parking Management Plan at the direction of the Parking Operations Manager. Maintain safe access to parking assets as needed. Service parking meters as appropriate; collect revenue from meters using collection equipment. Work is primarily performed in outdoor settings. While working outside, incumbent is subject to navigating uneven surfaces, exposure to noise, dust, fumes, gasses and inclement weather conditions.
This work requires exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and lifting up to 50 pounds. Work requires significant amount of walking throughout the Central Business District approximately 2 hours at a time, frequently requires standing.
Requirements: Equivalent to completion of High School or GED. One (1) year of experience in customer service, enforcement or a related field.
Other Requirements: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Vocal communication and normal hearing are required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, including 2-way radios. Using and operating a computer including specialized software. Operating and normal maintenance of office machines, (copier, computer, printer, fax, etc.). Tracking of activities, supplies and authorizations via specialized software or self-created forms and databases. Ability to pass drug screening & background check.
Wage: $19.70 - $23.91 Hourly
Shifts: This is a full-time position 9:00am-6:00pm initially or 8:00am-5pm as needed.
