Utilities Service, LLC Claims Specialist - ULCS in Durham, North Carolina

Claims Specialist

With limited supervision, the claims specialist promptly and effectively evaluates general liability property damages within his/her authority. The individual receives claims from multiple sources such as third-party claims agency, private property owners, onsite ULCS crews as well as local utility companies. The specialist investigates and determines liability and negotiates settlement if deemed liable via various communication channels such as telephone, internet, and email.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Perform onsite investigations.

  • Contact the appropriate parties including ULCS crews, general foreman, supervisors, claimants, agents, attorneys, contractors, other adjusters, public personnel, etc.

  • Notify all appropriate parties of actions taken and resolution.

  • Manages individual claim inventory throughout the process of file creation, distribution, acceptance or denial correspondence and payment resolution.

  • Meet goals for closing files in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Knowledge of OH and UG distribution is preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Microsoft Office Skills

  • Good customer service and conflict resolution skills.

Education & Experience

  • Able to provide proof of work experience, schooling, and any certifications that you have obtained during your career.

Pre-Screen

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.

Physical Requirements:

  • RARE (less than 10%): Stooping, Kneeling, Squatting, Body Twisting, Crawling, Sense of Touch, Seeing Distant, Climbing On/Off Truck, Climbing Poles, Gripping, Lifting Over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., Reaching, Pushing, Pulling, Climbing Ladders, Climbing Stairs, and Balancing

  • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): Standing, Walking, Manual Dexterity, Range of Motion, Depth Perception, Lifting, Carrying, and Lifting Up to 10 lbs.

  • FREQUENT (up to 66%): Sitting, and Color Vision

  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): Speaking Clearly, Seeing, Reading, Hearing-Speech Range

Safety

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
