Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Facilities Operations Department reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management and is responsible for the planning, repair, renovation and maintenance of all NCCU.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of the position is to supervise Facility Maint Tech-Building Trades in the construction, repair, restoration and installation of structural woodwork, basic plumbing, basic electrical, masonry, roof maintenance, door and hardware and related materials. This position will also supervise moving services. The General Services shop supports special events to include commencements, homecoming, open house and other events as required. Note: this position supervises maintenance staff for both Academic and Residence Hall facilities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess: knowledge of the standard practices and methods of carpentry, roofing, painting, electrical and plumbing trades. The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques; knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the carpentry, roofing, painting, electrical and plumbing trades. This position will supervise the repair or replace various locks and door hardware, rotate all locks on a semester basis, select supplies and locks needed to maintain the safety and security of facilities; knowledge and skill in supervising the work of others; knowledge of Banner or an equivalent system; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word and Excel) Applications; knowledge of concrete and brick masonry repairs; knowledge of construction, repair, restoration and installation of wood or related materials; ability to monitor budget and expenditures; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills; must be available for weekends as needed to support university activities, i.e. commencement, convocations, games, etc.
Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Required Competency Knowledge - Technical
Duties
Demonstrates a designated level of technical skill or knowledge in a specific technical area(s) and ability to keep up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise. May be acquired through academic, apprenticeship or on-the-job training or a combination of these.
This person gives feedback and advice to employees, counsels and coaches employees in daily work related to technical problems. Visits the various work sites daily to assure employees are productively engaged in the proper operation of equipment. Manages an off hour emergency program for areas of responsibility, reviews building plans and tie ends for carpentry, electricians, painters, plumbers and locksmiths.

Duties
Ability to provide oversight for project(s) and all related activities in that setting to include quality assurance and safety; ability to coordinate and manage facilities, equipment, supplies and related resources as necessary for the project; ability to monitor environmental risks, if any and quality control. Ability to establish a set of tasks and activities (to include estimated budget) associated with an intended outcome and timeline. Ability to ensure actions are performed and/or implemented to achieve the results of the project. This person analyzes faults, defects and malfunctions with in the project.
