TSC’s Intelligent Systems Laboratory in North Carolina is a state-of-the-art research and development research facility, dedicated to R&D in the areas of computational neuroscience, deep learning, machine learning, persistent surveillance, autonomous systems, and computer vision. The laboratory currently is host to world-class scientists and engineers, with advanced degrees in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, neuroscience, chemistry, biomedical engineering, and mechanical engineering.
Position Summary and Responsibilities
Teledyne Scientific Company is seeking candidates for a Senior Research Scientist to support advanced research and development and program capture for machine learning, and other advanced technology applications. We are particularly interested in machine learning and signal processing for RF, RADAR, Communications, and SAR. This position is at our research laboratory in Research Triangle Park, Durham, North Carolina.
Primary Responsibilities:
The position involves driving strategic direction, program capture, and research and development tasks related to mathematics, computer software and algorithm development, machine learning, laboratory experiments, and demonstrations. Specific duties include:
Lead programs as a Principal Investigator
Lead program capture and proposal writing efforts
Organize and lead program execution to meet program deliverables and metrics
Design, develop and test mathematical algorithms for various projects involving signal/image processing and machine learning
Design, develop and test software related to signal/image processing and machine learning
Work closely with team members to develop solutions to challenging problems
Prepare and present results to customers, executives, and technical staff
Skills/Experience:
Proven track record of writing winning proposals to DARPA, IARPA, and other DoD and IC organizations
At least 5 years of experience with program capture and leading programs as PI
Strong foundation in numerical techniques (FFT, Monte Carlo, finite elements, linear algebra, PDEs, ODEs, statistics, etc.) are required
Expertise with specific computational domains, such as machine learning/artificial intelligence, image processing, signal processing is required, e.g.,
Signal Processing Expertise: Fourier analysis, noise modeling, and understanding of complex signal properties.
Radar Expertise: Pulse compression, Doppler processing, digital filter banks, synthetic aperture radar, and signal phenomenology.
Communications Expertise: ADC/DAC, digital modulation, wireless channel modeling, probability and random processes, and dispersive channels and MIMO.
Simulation experience: Matlab/Python/C++ experience modeling communications and/or radar hardware for performance analysis and signal generation.
Experience with prototyping and analyzing algorithms
Experience with CUDA and GPU programming strongly desired
Experience with Rancher/Kubernetes is a plus
Familiarity with scientific programming in Python is required
Strong skills in successfully organizing and coordinating projects and activities
Excellent interpersonal and communication (presentation & writing) skills
Coursework in software development and computer architecture required
Coursework in algorithms is strongly desired
Education:
- Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical discipline
Citizenship & Clearance:
Candidates are required to be U.S. Citizens
Ability to obtain a security clearance is required
