Senior Specialist Legal Editor (Lawyer), Wage and Hour Practical Law US is looking for a Senior Specialist Legal Editor (lawyer) who has a passion for legal research and writing to create attorney-specific wage and hour resources for our Labor & Employment Service. We are looking for someone who has focused their legal career on wage and hour litigation defense, as well as wage and hour advice and counsel work for employers. We work collaboratively on resources and interesting projects that integrate with Thomson Reuters's other offerings, particularly in the legal technology space. The focus of the Senior Specialist Legal Editor is to expand the scope of our legal know-how materials in the following areas, as well as to keep the existing materials in these areas up to date: * Federal Fair Labor Standards Act, FLSA regulations, and DOL/WHD guidance. * State and local wage and hour standards, including: * pay disclosure in job postings and salary history bans; * predictive scheduling/fair workweek requirements; * meal and rest periods; * methods of pay, wage statements, and pay on termination; and * business expense reimbursement. * Minimum wage and overtime pay, including: * exemption requirements; * the fluctuating workweek method; * the regular rate of pay; and * compensable time, the Portal-to-Portal Act, and de minimis time. * Tipped employee issues, including tip credits, tip pooling, and the "80/20 rule." * Independent contractor classification and agreements. * Payroll policies, timekeeping, and recordkeeping requirements. * Wage and hour litigation, including collective and class actions, opt-in issues, defenses, settlement, and arbitration. * DOL rulemaking, emerging trends such as earned wage access (EWA), and new developments such as the impact of AI on wage and hour. * Other topics, including: * child labor; * interns, trainees, and volunteers; * commissioned sales agreements; and * garnishment. About the Role In the Senior Specialist Legal Editor (Lawyer), Wage and Hour role, you will: Conceptualize, draft, and edit original legal know-how materials, including practice notes, annotated standard-form documents, and checklists for online and print publication. Monitor and analyze federal, state, and local wage and hour developments as well as current trends in wage and hour standards and legal practice. Focus and shape the future of Practical Law's wage and hour content. Support Labor & Employment teammates and colleagues on other teams through collaboration, peer review, special projects, and more. Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to assist with marketing initiatives, sales demonstrations, the creation of video content, webinars, and more for current and potential subscribers. Assist with the development of special projects undertaken by Thomson Reuters and Practical Law. Develop and use existing relationships with in-house counsel and legal practitioners to ensure that the wage and hour content is topical and meets their needs. About You You're a fit for the role of Senior Specialist Legal Editor, if you have the following skills and experience: At least eight years of labor and employment experience specializing in defense-side wage and hour litigation and advice and counsel. Enthusiasm and ambition, with a desire to improve the efficiency of legal services. A solid understanding of the needs of law firm attorneys and corporate counsel with respect to all areas of labor and employment law practice. Ability to understand and interpret complex wage and hour concepts, statutory and regulatory language and case law. A passion for writing and excellent editing skills, including: very close attention to detail; impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English; and the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
