Position Summary
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research associate in the area of optical diagnostics development in multiphase flows under the direction of Dr. Minami Yoda. The primary responsibilities of the position will be the application of superresolution imaging techniques such as structured illumination to study flow boiling of high- and low-surface tension fluids in minichannels. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field and must have an outstanding academic record.
The ideal candidate should have experience with and working knowledge of most, if not all, of the following areas:
Fundamental knowledge of fluid mechanics including multiphase flows and phase change
Design and implementation of experiments in non-isothermal multiphase flows or related areas
Hands-on experience designing, building, and debugging laser-based optical flow diagnostics, preferably beyond commercial systems
Using and developing image processing, data acquisition and signal processing software (MATLAB, LabVIEW, etc.).
Some familiarity with machine learning would also be a plus. The position is anticipated to be for two years but can be extended depending on the availability of funds.
