WSP USA Team Leader / Project Manager in East Sussex, United Kingdom

Your new role, what's involved?

Our Commission in East Sussex is a partnership between WSP and Balfour Beatty Living Places which started in May 2023. We are looking to build a long-term relationship with the client and to introduce greater resilience to the business so we are looking for a Team Leader who will also be our local Infrastructure Improvements Project Manager. This role will support our Deputy Commission Manager in delivering services to our client. In this role you will work closely with the Deputy Commission Manager and the Commission Manager in delivering strong commission performance, whilst building the company reputation.

As part of the commission management team you will provide:

  • Leadership – be a visible role model, sustaining teams by engaging with staff, supporting staff development, health, safety and wellbeing performance, promoting inclusion and diversity and developing strong relationships with internal stakeholders.

  • Delivery – you will lead a team of approximately 6 UK & iCRC designers and oversee a portfolio of up to 50 minor and medium highways infrastructure improvement projects.

  • Management - Your role will cover line management, team leadership, mentoring and recruitment. You will be take responsibility for the utilisation of the team, working closely with the Deputy Commission manager to ensure a strong performance.

  • Collaboration – promoting a One WSP ethos to facilitate the delivery of services, working with teams to identify solutions to overcome challenges and the appropriate resources to enhance service delivery.

  • Client management – engaging with and building strong relationships with Balfour Beatty staff and external stakeholders, developing an awareness of the complex political and commercial environment.

  • Financial management – supporting the financial performance of the contract as required.

The team:

  • Our embedded team of 18 staff work hand-in-hand with colleagues in East Sussex and the wider WSP delivering highways and transportation services ranging from small maintenance and improvement schemes to large, complex major projects.

  • Our Commission in East Sussex is critical to our ongoing success. Our Team Leaders act as role models to our staff. As leaders in our business, they embrace innovation, champion key Client initiatives and WSP initiatives such as Future Ready and Net Zero whilst at the same time taking responsibility for day-to-day delivery of high-quality services.

  • Based in the Ringmer Depot, near Lewes, you will adopt WSP’s approach to hybrid working and should expect to be visible to the Staff and Client in the office for three days per week.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Demonstratable knowledge and experience in the successful delivery of Local Government Highways Projects.

  • Experience of leading a small to medium team with the ability to influence and motivate others

  • A background in the leadership of teams designing and delivering small-to-medium-sized highway improvement projects for local authorities.

  • A background or relevant experience in project/ programme management.

  • The ability to build authentic, trusting relationships with stakeholders and your team.

  • A passion for developing collaborative relationships with clients and partners and finding ways to add significant value.

  • A confident yet diplomatic operating style - a pro-active decision maker who deals easily with cultural diversity and change.

  • Strong organisational skills and excellent communications skills.
