Solnit Children’s Center – North Campus, is accepting applications for one (1) full-time State School Teacher (https://www.jobapscloud.com/CT/specs/classspecdisplay.asp?ClassNumber=8039T4&R1=&R3=) position in East Windsor, CT.

We would entrust you to work extensively with teachers and administration to help students improve their learning skills. We expect the incumbents would be able to provide specific strategies for teaching and supporting students with the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision making, risk-taking and inventiveness. We would support you as you collaborate with classroom teachers as well as support staff, monitor student progress, and administer assessments as necessary.
We are seeking a candidate who possesses:
An understanding of the different types of learning styles of students and being able to teach to their ability levels.
The ability to work with a variety of different disciplines throughout the day.
Working knowledge of classroom routines and disciplines.
Outstanding personal and interpersonal skills.
The ability to follow the class schedule as provided by the school administration with the understanding that it may change unexpectedly.

Full-time | 1st shift | 35 Hours per week
Monday – Friday | 8:00 am – 3:30 pm
Special Education 165 Certification Required
In your role as a State School Teacher, you will have the opportunity to:
Teach early intervention elementary, secondary, special subject and/or special education curricula;
Develop educational plans for individuals and groups material level to students ability;
Set short term and long term goals and evaluate progress of students;
Participate in planning team meetings and case review conferences assessing student behavior;
Relate to professionals in ancillary educational roles;
Maintain student records and write reports;
May hold conferences with parents or officials concerned with student’s performance;
Perform related work as required.

About the Albert J. Solnit Children’s Center:
Located in East Windsor, it is widely recognized as a center of excellence for family-centered treatment of children and youth with serious emotional disturbances. This campus consists of our male adolescent psychiatric residential treatment facility cottages (PRTF). This state-administered Psychiatric facility provides comprehensive care to children and adolescents under the age of eighteen, with severe mental illness and related behavioral and emotional problems who cannot be safely assessed or treated in a less restrictive setting. Components of the program include: comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment; 24-hour supervision and monitoring; individual, group and family therapy; medication evaluation and management; intensive case management; and in-home support.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state institution, facility or region within a state unified school district this class teaches appropriate early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subjects and/or special education curricula to individuals enrolled in departmental education programs.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Teaches early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subject and/or special education curricula;
Develops educational plans for individuals and groups material level to students ability;

Knowledge of
the philosophy and methods of education and teaching;
the principles and practices of education for special needs population;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Special Education (165) certification
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employment in this class is conditional upon possession of a valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate appropriate to the teaching assignment.
Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle operator's license.
