The Challenge

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician III to join our Maintenance Operations Support team.

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as a lead technician monitoring project schedules and ensuring timely delivery of project data and documents.
  • Collect and analyze roadway data to generate estimates and plans for Preservation, Resurfacing, and Maintenance projects, making informed and critical decisions regarding pavement conditions, appropriate treatments, and necessary roadway improvements based on Roadway Technician experience.
  • Perform field surveys using conventional and GPS equipment.
  • Conduct drone (UAS) flights.
  • Process associated data and create and maintain GIS data and applications.
  • Draft 2D plans and construct 3D models using CAD software.
  • Communicate with our Maintenance, Construction, and Project Development teams in Division 1.
  • Provide updates on ongoing and planned work.
  • Use collected data and analytics to produce reports, including spreadsheets, maps, and summaries.
  • Assist junior technicians and support engineers.
  • Perform field and office work, including project scoping, project inspection, surveying, drainage studies, and data collection.
  • Use computer programs to compute calculations, record and analyze data, generate engineers estimates, and draft plan drawings and maps.
  • Assist in severe weather and emergency response operations by collecting route condition data, providing coordination between maintenance and contractor staff, and inspecting contractor operations.

What You Bring

  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and construction operations to assist with projects of broad scope.
  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
  • Intermediate or higher computer skills using Microsoft Office and drafting software.
  • Ability to safely operate a State vehicle.
  • Match skills to perform algebraic and geometric calculations.
  • Ability to competently review and retain information from technical resources, policies, specifications, statutes, etc.
  • A strong work ethic and communication skills (verbal and written) to maintain working relations with other employees and the public.
  • You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
