Our Vascular Access Team serves a high acuity, diverse population of both surgical and medical patients, while partnering with an expert multidisciplinary team.

The Vascular Access Team RN is responsible for troubleshooting and placing all types of vascular access devices managing the care vascular access of the young adult, adult or older patient experiencing vascular needs. The Vascular Access RN is responsible to the Nurse Manager for assigned Vascular Access Team.

Responsibilities Job Description
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
Assesses patient for proper vascular access placement according to system and site selection criteria
Places complex peripheral IV lines in all adult and pediatric patient populations.
Uses Ultrasound and other technologies for IV placement.
Based on site role expectation may independently place PICC lines: Ultrasound,
Modified Seldinger Technique, Navigational devices and ECG.
Assess and treat VAD sites for all complications such as: Infiltration, Phlebitis, Infection,
Extravasation, Thrombosis, Precipitates, Catheter malfunctions, Mal-positioned catheters or Occlusions.
Performs and acts as expert resource to other health care team members in coordinating nursing interventions regarding the placement, maintenance and troubleshooting of all VAD’s such as:
Use of TPS to de-clot CVC’s
Lab draws from CVC’s
CVC dressing changes
Port a Cath access, de-access, and trouble shooting
Discontinuation of PICC lines
Demonstrates care and compassion for patients resulting in a high quality outcome and positive patient experience. Works to assure the patient’s comfort is enhanced. Involves family or support system to the greatest extent possible and based on the patient’s preferences.
Teaches/trains staff and patients in the care and maintenance of all vascular access devices/VAD.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
BLS for Health Care Provider
RN MN License
Two years of recent vascular access experience
Ability to independently complete PICC line, Midline insertions and ultrasound guided IV insertions upon hire.
Specific Adult and/or Pediatric experienced based on population served.
Preferred
BSN or higher RN degree
Current certification from Infusion Nurses Society or Association of Vascular Access
