ASRC Federal Technical Services is seeking an Information Assurance (IA)/Information Security (IS) Specialist to join ourNational Airspace Data Interchange Network (NADIN)team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
NADIN is how official Aviation weather information is transmitted for AWOS systems around the U.S. to the FAA and NWS, and then to third party weather sources which include Flight Service, Air Traffic Control, WSI, Meteorological, DUATS, the Weather Channel and other internet-based weather sources. An AWOS-generated METAR message is transmitted from the AWOS to NADIN. The METAR message is a meteorological Aviation Report used typically for flight planning and input into ATIS systems but can also be used for local weather reporting as well. AWI has its own secure data link to the NADIN and its own certified hardware solution.
We are looking for an individual to work independently and in a team environment, to conduct testing and implementation of security solutions. This individual:
Must communicate effectively, both written and oral, to accomplish work assignments.
May be required to research, implement and/or maintain security solutions.
With assistance and as directed, may develop and implement test plans, build and maintain security designs and solutions and provide documentation for a variety of security issues.
May need to interface with vendors to facilitate solutions.
Documentation may be in the form of research results, diagrams, plans, reports or presentations.
May provide support for compliance with FISMA and other security legislation and mandates.
May be required by task order to obtain and maintain a security clearance for access to classified national security information.
Required Skills
High School Diploma or GED with at least four (4) years of experience which must be directly related to technical security solutions. OR
Associate degree or above in a technical field with at least two (2) years of experience which must be directly related to technical security solutions. OR
Bachelors degree in a technical field.
Permanent Residency (with 3 years residing in the US) or US Citizenship is required for the FAA Public Trust/background investigation.
Analyze security bulletins and alerts and implement vulnerability remediation, including patch installation and operating system and application configuration updates.
Provide documentation for a variety of security issues, will need to interface with vendors to facilitate solutions.
Documentation may be in the form of installation procedures, plans, reports or presentations. May provide support for compliance with Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) and other security legislation and mandates.
Infrastructure patching, configuration on RHEL/MS Windows/Virtual environment
COTS software installation and configuration
Unix/Linux/Command line configuration and software installation
MS Windows configuration and software installation
Knowledge of Anti-Virus software and update processes
Microsoft Word
Preferred Skills
Scripting (including but not limited to PowerShell, Perl, Python, Bash, Ansible)
Familiar with Tanium, Tripwire, Splunk (client), Ansible, MS Power Platform.
Security certifications such as:
Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Security Fundamentals
ISACA CSX Cybersecurity Fundamentals Certificate
CompTIA Security + Zero Trust, FISMA High, NIST 800
Essential Job Duties
Document and respond to Security Operation Center bulletins, alerts, advisories, and data calls to ensure there is no impact on any of the systems security (NADIN National Airspace Data Interchange Network, AMHS Aeronautical Message Handling System, SFDPS Flight Data Publication System or NCR National Airspace System Common Reference System).
Develop comprehensive documentation for the patching process, maintenance procedures, ensuring adherence to FAA standards.
Provide second-level engineering support including patching and maintaining security solutions for FAA systems.
Provide technical support to field technicians during installation to ensure seamless deployment and adherence to cybersecurity standards.
Execute security updates strategically during periods of reduced air traffic to mitigate risk and minimize operational disruptions.
Regularly execute software upgrades for FAA systems to ensure they are up to date with the latest versions, effectively mitigating potential risks and vulnerabilities Gather patches and security updates, develop and implement maintenance procedures and plans for FAA systems.
Troubleshoot patching errors and manually fixing failed patches while ensuring security integrity of critical systems.
Regularly conduct tests and update FAA systems NADIN database on a 56-day cycle, ensuring data integrity and system performance.
Research, implement, and maintain security solutions for NADIN and AMHS, proactively mitigating potential vulnerabilities and ensuring system integrity.
Work Environment
Full-time position with a standard flexible work schedule and occasional non-standard work hours.
Must be willing to travel.
