The Toro Company Maintenance Technician in El Paso, Texas
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the department Supervisor, maintenance personnel are responsible for the maintenance of all production and some facility equipment in support of manufacturing objectives with a focus on preventative maintenance. Must inspect different equipment and perform any basic repairs or preventive maintenance when required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct routine inspections inside and outside of premises and equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment and test equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance on evaporative units and building equipment, etc.
Performs functions of a maintenance technician including repairs on: motors, drives, gearboxes, heater circuits, wiring, plumbing, hydraulics, pumps, fabrication of equipment and light machine shop work.
Diagnose and repair machines/machinery issues, building equipment, and/or structures as necessary.
Assists Maintenance Lead(s) with plant startups and shut downs.
Oversee contractors when professional repairs are necessary.
Fill forklift batteries and change as needed and operates Forklift when required.
Handle basic building repairs.
Perform lawn care as needed/clean weeded areas
Evaporative unit repairs
After training provided to develop a well-rounded skill set, the technician will be capable of replacing motor drives, electric motors, pumps, heat exchangers, and gearboxes.
Technician will develop skills to troubleshoot and repair basic circuits, heater elements, heat exchangers, filtration equipment, vacuum systems, polymer loading systems, and reelers.
Promotes a positive attitude towards safety.
Adheres to the requirements of Company safety policies including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and Hazardous Waste handling practices as well as safety rules, instructions and procedures.
Follows all requirements of Hazardous Energy Control programs, applicable NEC, ANSI, CDRH, NFPA, OSHA, Federal, State and Local regulations. Safety training is provided.
Participates in continuous improvement events.

EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent technical education is required.
Associates Degree or equivalency degree preferred.
Certifications preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
1-3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
Three, Five or seven years’ experience as a maintenance technician in a manufacturing environment in industrial mechanical and electrical maintenance is preferred.
Proven maintenance experience with Plastics manufacturing equipment, including injection molding, automated assembly, or extrusion machines.
Forklift certification preferred, internal certification would be required.
Experience with welding PLCs, lathe operation, milling machine operation, electrician certification preferred.
HVAC (Heating/cooling) experience and basic electricity knowledge is a plus.
Automotive experience preferred.
SKILLS:
Strong knowledge and proven troubleshooting skills of industrial electrical and electronic control systems, pneumatics, and shop practices.
Highly skilled in the use of various hand and power tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches.
Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts.
Ability to check blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
Experience performing routine maintenance.
Strong organizational and follow up skills.
Ability to maintain focus while working individually.
Schedule availability. Overtime will be required to repair down equipment and must be able to work any shift, weekends and holidays as needed.
Additional fabrication training may be provided including welding and machining such as lathe and mill.
Team work directly with the Maintenance Supervisor and maintenance technicians. Coordinates activities with Extrusion department managers, leads, set up personnel, manufacturing engineers, etc.
Decision Making: Ability to determine cause of down equipment and best course of action for repair. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to carry out complex projects in routine, preventative and emergency maintenance while complying with company, federal, state, and local regulations.
Able to diagnose causes of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic malfunctions and provide corrective action.
Effective and responsive customer service maintenance department support.
Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations, remaining focused on the ultimate objective.
Basic to intermediate competency level in MS Office.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crawl. Occasional lifting of up to 60 lbs. using proper body mechanics and assistance. Required vision abilities include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and color vision. Noise levels within the environment average 85 decibels and personal protective equipment (including hearing protection) is required.
Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and heat producing equipment.
Occasionally works in outside weather conditions exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes, some toxic or caustic chemicals and the risk of electrical shock.
