Elgin Math and Science Academy Lunch and Recess Monitors in Elgin, Illinois
The Elgin Math and Science Academy Charter School (EMSA, www.elginmathandscience.org (http://www.elginmathandscience.org)) opened in August of 2018 to all students residing in the U-46 attendance area. This coming year we will serve kindergarten through eighth grade students completing our expansion.
EMSA is seeking a compelling and committed Lunch and Recess Monitors that will help to establish a positive environment while modeling and encouraging the habits of scholarship for students' self-discipline. An EMSA Lunch and Recess Monitor will assist in providing a well-organized, efficient, and high functioning systems and supervision during lunch and recess for grades K-5. In addition to this, monitors will also supervise 6th - 8th grade lunch.
An EMSA Lunch and Recess Monitor will:
Operate with the understanding: Diversity is a fact, Inclusion is a behavior, Equity is the outcome
Work collaboratively with all members of the learning community to build relational trust and foster a growth mindset for all through modeling by taking professional risks, owning mistakes, and being metacognitive about their own growth and revision
Model EMSA's habits of scholarship in word and action and effectively build a positive culture that promotes self-discipline
Set and manage clear volume expectations in the lunchroom space
Supervise and manage students as they go through the lunch line
Follow and implement logical consequences for behavior per the school's Day in the Life Document and Consequence Matrix
Transition classes or students to and from the building to the playground
Provide and implement clear expectations for lunch and recess procedures
Independently or with assistance de-escalate behaviors or student conflict
Facilitate in-door recess during inclement weather
An Ideal candidate is someone who:
Follows all directives of the classroom teacher, administrative assistants, or school leaders
Administers and records any behavior incidents into a referral tracking system
Maintains the equipment used for outdoor recess
Provides all relevant behavioral information or conflict to classroom teachers at the end of lunch/recess to minimize conflict entering the classroom.
Maintains control and utilizes behavior management practices that are consistent with those of the EMSA logical consequence matrix or progressive discipline steps
Exhibits confidentiality in relation to students, parents, and staff
Develops positive working relationships with administration, staff, students, and parents
Will be knowledgeable and vigilant in the adherence of the School Safety Plan
Independently de-escalates student conflict or behavior
Clearly communicates expectations with students
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma
Communication and interpersonal skills to engage in a highly collaborative school environment
Ability to develop relational trust with students, families and staff
Desired
Fluent in Spanish and English
Experience in working with English Learners
Experience in working with low-income populations
General Hours/Days
Lunch and Recess Monitors will have a set schedule Monday-Friday from 10:30am - 1:30pm. Additional supervision opportunities may arise for candidates interested in additional hours. These hours apply to all in session school days.
Hiring Timeline and Application Process
We seek to hire a minimum of three lunch and recess monitors for an August 2023 start date.
