North Country SPCA, Inc. Animal Care Technician in Elizabethtown, New York

Animal Care Technician duties: adhere to all NCSPCA Animal Care Policies, clean and disinfect all animal kennels, dishes, and toys daily using NCSPCA protocols, provide food and water to animals daily, observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition each day and report any signs of illness, disease, or distress to Shelter Manager, daily launder blankets, beds, and towels, walk dogs several times a day to provide exercise, socialization, and training, keep food bins full of the proper type of food, thoroughly clean and disinfect all areas of the shelter as needed, sweep and mop all floors daily, notify the Shelter Manager with supplies need to be ordered, unpack, label, and stock shelter supplies and donations, remove garbage daily, remove animal waste from the shelter property, assist volunteers and the public with removing animals from their kennels, assist with training of new volunteers as needed or directed, help prepare animals for adoption through socialization, basic obedience, and providing medical care as needed or directed, assist the Shelter Manager with adoptions and surrenders as directed, assist the Shelter Maintenance Technician as directed, answer phones and greet all visitors in a polite, friendly and professional manner, communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, management and the public at all times, promote positive relationships with the general public, volunteers and staff while promoting the shelter's programs, policies, and philosophies. Qualifications: high school or equivalent, experience working with animals in a shelter or kennel, vet clinic or volunteer environment preferred. Must be independent worker with goo organizational skills, ability to multi-task, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must be punctual with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Physical demands: often requires lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires handling large dogs, walking or standing for long periods often in inclement weather. May be required to use strength or agility in capturing and restraining stronger more active animals. Allergic condition that could be aggravated through exposure or contact with animals is a disqualification. Work primarily on site at the shelter, with occasion for off-site special and mobile events. There is a potential of exposure to parasites and infectious diseases that can be carried and transmitted by animals. Must clean and disinfect kennels and dispose of animal waste.
