Job Summary and Qualifications

Under general supervision, and according to general policies and procedures, the patient safety coordinator supports the patient safety department in the maintenance of the grievance process, the patient safety event surveillance system to improve patients and visitor safety and overall quality of care and assisting in risk related activities.

What you will do in this role:

  • Assists the Patient Safety Department in supporting the facility in resolving patient complaints and promoting a positive experience for our patients and visitors.

  • Collects, analyzes and trends data on patient grievances utilizing the patient grievance and PSO tracking database. Monitors patient Grievance responses and investigates delayed responses as appropriate

  • Assists in monitoring the implementation of SEA action plans. Utilizes acquired knowledge from analyses, investigations and root cause analyses to recommend process improvements in patient grievance and patient safety initiatives

  • Ensures compliance with organizational wide Patient Grievance program to ensure compliance to statutory mandates, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards of professional organizations, i.e., TJC, CMS, CDPHE, etc.

  • Collaborates, shares pertinent information with members of the healthcare team regarding the Patient Grievance/Safety program to drive actions for improvement.

  • Assist in the development and participates in contingency plans of organizational patient safety initiatives

  • Follows established guidelines for reporting, responding to, and monitoring compliance with the patient care grievances which results in formal grievances which includes but not limited to reporting to the Board.

  • Promotes an environment of teamwork within the department and externally with other departments

  • Effectively utilizes teamwork to address patient safety concerns

  • Fosters a culture of safety and a “no blame” environment for the department that effectively identifies and resolves patient safety concerns

  • Has a working knowledge of and educates staff on the SEA and FMEA process when working with a patient safety concern

  • Supports department patient safety initiatives during the year, including CSIP

  • Incorporates risk reduction strategies into daily work activities

  • In coordination with Patient Safety Director, may assist in conducting SEAs as necessary

  • Actively supports improved compliance with external patient safety initiatives: HCA, TJC, Leapfrog, IHI and NQF

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree healthcare related fields, Required

  • 1+ year(s) of experience in healthcare in hospital acute facility, Required

  • 1+ year(s) of experience in quality and/or patient safety/risk management, Preferred

  • 1+ year(s) of experience in managing software reporting program, Preferred
