SNOW COLLEGE Police Sergeant in EPHRAIM, Utah

Description

Snow College is seeking a dedicated and experienced law enforcement professional to join our team as Sergeant in the Public Safety Department. Reporting directly to the Chief of Public Safety, the Sergeant plays a pivotal role in maintaining campus safety by investigating crimes, enforcing laws, ordinances, and the student code of conduct. Additionally, this role involves providing crime prevention training, supervising a student security team, and fostering a secure environment conducive to learning and community well-being. This is an 11-month position with a schedule determined by departmental needs to accommodate campus activities, meetings, investigative duties and ensure comprehensive coverage across campuses.

Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma
  • Associates degree (minimum of three years of law enforcement experience, including management can be used in lieu of the associate degree)
  • Must be P.O.S.T. Certified Peace Officer and Maintain POST Certification as outlined in the Public Safety Code 53-13-103. 
  • Minimum of two years related work experience. The most successful candidates will have previous college campus or community policing experience. 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse populations. 
  • Must enjoy working with college students
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to qualify with department issued weapon as required. 
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic CPR certification

     

Major Responsibilities/Duties

 

  • Promote a safe, secure campus through law enforcement, campus involvement & student interactions.
  • Must be able to work shift work including day, evening & weekend shifts as well as on-call availability.
  • Enforce federal, state & local laws, as well as college policies and the student code of conduct. 
  • Investigate crimes, incidents and violations.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports as required.
  • Perform regular vehicle & foot patrols and respond promptly to calls for service.  
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. 
  • Provide crime prevention training to various student groups to promote campus safety. 
  • Provide leadership and supervision to part time student security team including training, schedule and performance evaluation.
  • Manage security team wage budget. 
  • May spend time on the Richfield campus as needed, subject to each campus' schedule and requirements.
