Director of Public Works Salary Range:

Minimum - $154,417/annually

Midpoint - $185,300/annually

Maximum - $216,183/annually

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages and oversees the daily operations of engineering, transportation and facilities. and general aviation airport Meets with consultants to plan and approve new street paving/construction, transportation, and transit projects; reviews submitted plans to ensure appropriate charges; inspects, approves and accepts projects upon completion. Establishes and/or approves specifications for construction and repair of airport, transportation, transit infrastructure and other Town facilities, prepares cost estimates, specifications and plans for purchase of materials, using environmental and sustainable management practices. Coordinates planning and construction of utility facilities with the Utilities Department and with Town consultants, Town personnel, developers and contractors. Works closely with consulting engineers on designs and specifications and administers requests for bids and assignment of contracts for airport, transportation, transit and utility projects; coordinates project program planning, contracting and construction supervision in coordination with the Utilities Department. Develops and implements sustainable policies and procedures for assigned divisions. Reviews standards and provides technical direction, oversight and leadership to assigned staff to maintain an efficient and effective operation of all Town utilities in coordination with the Utilities Department. Hires, trains, coaches and evaluates the work of Town Engineer, Facilities Manager and Transportation Manager, and technical office staff. Plans, assigns and oversees work; addresses complaints; manages conflict and resolves problems. Assists senior management in planning long term facility and utility related projects, plant expansion, and other capital projects. using sustainable management practices. Prepares budget requests to include expenditures for equipment and supply purchases, capital outlay items and personnel costs; exercises fiscal control over the application of allocated resources; prepares requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and materials and bid specifications for high-cost equipment. Provides direction to airport manager in the daily operation of the airport as well as maintenance and repairs, emergencies and FAA Grant program projects either directly or through delegation. Attends Town related meetings as required to present budget, programs, services and facilities activity reports, studies, analyses and plans for present and future activities. Prepares a variety of periodic reports for relevant state agencies to reflect departmental activities in support of receipt of state funds. Responds to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agenc es, members of the business community and the general public. Acts on behalf of the Town Manager by assignment or delegation in their absence. Performs related work as required and assigned.
