UPMC Crisis Technician I (Casual- Safe Harbor Behavioral Health) in Erie, Pennsylvania

Safe Harbors Crisis Residential Unit (CRU) is an 8-bed facility for diversion from inpatient behavioral health. Our team is staffed with registered nurses, CRNPs/PAs, masters level Therapists, technicians, and a discharge specialist. We provide services including medication management and adjustments, group and individual therapy, and referrals and connections for follow up care.

The hire for this position will assist in consumer services with the CRU team. This is a casual position with a variable schedule can include daylight, evening, night and weekend hours. The ideal candidate for this position must have a high school diploma. Prior behavioral health or crisis related experience is strongly preferred, but not required. Training will be provided after hire. The dress code is business casual and parking is provided on site at no cost.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance with ADLs, hygiene and laundry as needed.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary activities such as staff meetings.

  • Act as a member of the recovery team to provide direct care to individuals and families of the walk-in & structured residence based on CSSP principles, recovery and rehabilitation model of care.

  • Use motivational interviewing with Consumers in a crisis office/residential setting.

  • Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.

  • Participate as member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, working in conjunction with crisis care staff, program staff, and physicians and participate in the development and implementation of treatment plans.

  • Meet standards for documentation and completes all required paperwork.

  • Maintain the therapeutic milieu, including safety.

  • Provide supportive counseling to promote consumer stability by utilizing a person centered, strength based model of intervention.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • B.S. degree preferred.

  • Crisis experience preferred.

  • Consistent ability to respond calmly and effectively, using good clinical judgment to both psychiatric and medical emergencies.

  • Provide direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill residents including lifting, supporting, running toward or away from areas where problems are occurring, and pushing or pulling equipment.

  • Excellent interpersonal relations and disposition that is warm, friendly, caring, kind, and hospitable toward consumers and colleagues.

  • Ability work efficiently and independently in crisis setting.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Ability to work under stress, with an unpredictable consumer flow.

  • Flexible schedule; rotating shifts. May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients.

  • Transportation of medication is limited from one department to another. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Act 31 or Act 126 - must be obtained within 90 days.ASIST Certification to be obtained within 1 year of hire or transferCPR within 30 days of hire or transfer

  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
