UPMC Medical Assistant - Foot and Ankle of NWPA in Erie, Pennsylvania

Responsibilities:

  • Check schedules and organize patient flow, accompanying patients to exam and procedure rooms while assisting with walking, transfers, and dressing.

  • Collect patient information and history, taking vitals and performing screenings per provider guidelines, while relaying instructions to patients and families.

  • Send and receive patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations, ensuring confidentiality and security of data.

  • Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment according to department protocols, maintaining infection control through cleaning between visits.

  • Manage inventory of supplies, restocking exam and procedure rooms, and keeping records of cleaning schedules and maintenance.

  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; assist physicians with procedures and document patient information accurately in medical records.

  • Answer calls, provide pertinent information, and educate patients as directed, while verifying insurance coverage and scheduling appointments.

  • Under physician supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines, ensuring compliance with regulatory agency requirements and UPMC policies.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities

Preferred:

  • Medical Assistant experience

  • Wound care/post op care experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

Act 31 Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of hire or transfer

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
