Position Summary

The Assistant Dean for Career Readiness (ADCR) is a member of the CAS undergraduate education team. The ADCR will be charged with developing and implementing the college’s vision for liberal arts career readiness. Career readiness encompasses the acquisition of transferrable skills cultivated both in CAS classrooms and experiential learning opportunities, including on-campus activities such as research, archival work, and leadership opportunities as well as off-campus experiences like fieldwork, study abroad, community engagement, and internships.

The ADCR will lead the college’s efforts to embed career readiness in CAS undergraduate courses by ensuring that CAS students can clearly articulate the career competencies they are developing in their core education courses and their major coursework, including critical & creative thinking, effective communication, ethical reasoning, and cultural literacy. This position will collaborate with the University Career Center and the Offices of the Provost and President to align the college’s vision with the broader career readiness goals of the university. This position will also collaborate with CAS leadership, campus partners, alumni donors, and granting agencies, to provide every CAS student the opportunity to participate in high-impact experiential learning opportunities. The ADCR will support the many career readiness efforts currently embedded in CAS departments while also facilitating college-wide efforts. The ADCR will lead the college’s efforts to launch CAS graduates into successful careers.

Minimum Requirements

• Masters Degree

• Experience facilitating high-impact learning opportunities in a higher education setting

• Supervision experience

• Experience developing career readiness and/or experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate students

Professional Competencies

• Ability to articulate issues concerning undergraduate education across the college

• Ability to promote career readiness and experiential learning

• Ability to advance the vision of the CAS Dean

• Ability to work with equanimity with a broad range of individuals and departments

• Ability to adopt a college-wide point of view on both academic and administrative matters

• Ability to act reasonably in unusual and potentially challenging circumstances

• Ability to provide the associate dean with sound advice and counsel

• A track record of promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D.

• Experience developing career readiness and/or experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate students

• Experience working with a broad range of faculty and staff at a variety of different levels and from different backgrounds

• A demonstrated ability to lead others

• An ability to articulate the challenges and opportunities liberal arts students have with career development

• Experience using data to drive decision-making
