Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber and Composites (MCCFC) is composed of several companies, but at its core there are two. In April 2013, two California Companies, Grafil, a carbon fiber manufacturer in Sacramento and Newport Adhesives and Composites, a prepreg manufacturer in Irvine, were merged to create Mitsubishi Rayon Carbon Fiber and Composites (MRCFAC); then in 2017, we re-branded to MCCFC. Since our merge, we have made multiple acquisitions within the United States. In addition to these acquisitions, we have continued to improve and expand our current facility’s capabilities. Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber Division is seeking a, is seeking a Plant Engineer to join a team committed to excellence, continuous improvement and driving sustainable business results. This position is responsible for the development, management, and implementation of engineering projects to improve the facility, equipment, and process. Identify solutions to problems through hands-on testing, root cause analysis, prototyping, troubleshooting, or analysis and then proposes conceptual designs. Expand upon conceptual designs with detailed engineering documentation and develops project budgets, schedules and training. Coordinate work with cross-functional team, suppliers, and contractors; inspects, commissions, troubleshoots and tests all plant equipment and processes. Responsible for Capex projects, including design, budgeting, procurement, installation, commissioning, optimization/troubleshooting, maintenance, schedule and cost control, and documentation efforts associated with new equipment and procedures. What You Will Do...

  • Manages plant engineering projects, and possibly large maintenance projects, including engineering design, prototyping, budgets, schedules, purchase requests, inspection, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance and documentation.

  • Creates engineering concepts and designs. Creates and maintains engineering documentation including drawings, P&ID, models, specifications, schematics, and calculations. Creates and maintains project documentation including Management of Change (MOC), safety documents, expenditures, scope of work, and schedules.

  • Gathers and interprets data from processes and equipment to support engineering design work. Inspects equipment, the process, and process records within the manufacturing facility. Submits technical reports of gathered data for review by other stakeholders.

  • Develops and builds trial equipment to test designs or gather data. Installs and/or uses instruments to gather required data.

  • Leads multidisciplinary teams, coordinates, schedules and inspects the work of contractors and employees assigned to engineering projects for safety, quality, and productivity. Occasionally supervise contractors and employees related to managed projects.

  • Generates, maintains and organizes project documentation using engineering file storage system. Ensures proper revision control of documents under their responsibility.

  • Promotes self as a team member. Actively participates in scheduled and impromptu meetings related to managed projects, the department, and technical operation of the facility when required. Coordinates with other departments to design and implement projects.

  • Exhibits exemplary conduct at all times with other employees and outside contractors. Contributes to a healthy, positive, and safe environment.

  • May be assigned, and be expected to perform to acceptable standards, any other relevant related duties as required by management.

What You Will Have...

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering preferred).

  • 8+ years in operations or engineering design in an industrial manufacturing or chemical plant. Experience in carbon fiber manufacturing preferred.

  • Knowledge of design, construction, and commissioning of industrial equipment related to mechanical drive systems, conveying systems, heating, ducting, and process piping.

  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles, including controls systems, in an industrial environment.

  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles preferred.

  • Familiar with Process Safety Management (PSM), OSHA regulations, and ISO management system standards.

  • Experience in managing project components with cross-functional teams, contractors and suppliers preferred.

  • Ability to operate office equipment including computers, phones, and printers. Experience using engineering design computer programs for 2D drafting and 3D parametric modeling. AutoCAD and Inventor experience preferred.

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders to access equipment and platforms. Ability to open hatches, lids, and doors to access equipment. Able to be trained to operate an Aerial Lift.

  • Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts. Ability to push and pull parts and carts.

  • Ability to use powered and hand tools to assemble or disassemble and adjust equipment. Ability to operate radios, valves, buttons, switches, and touchscreens.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with technical writing preferred.

Pay Transparency (complete highlighted sections)

  • The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $107,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
