Description
The Lead position is designed to be assigned to Level 4 Manufacturing Engineer as an additional responsibility. Leads the introduction of new manufacturing technology to improve production efficiency and increase capacity and capability for new product introduction. Recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls. Coordinates manufacturing launch and cross-functional support for new or revised products and/or programs. Effectively uses resources to resolve problems, support special projects and improve processes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs, identifies, recommends, and leads projects for the introduction of new manufacturing technology that significantly enhances the manufacturing environment and meets customer expectations.
Leads detailed process analyses and implement changes to processes and procedures such as safety procedures, work methods, production processes and labor standards
Oversees production and maintenance manufacturing planning and sketches for detailed parts and assemblies.
Redesigns or designs tooling to support the manufacture of parts and assemblies.
Leads shop continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and daily management activities (Kata).
Develops and maintains manufacturing plans, drawings/sketches, new materials, bill of materials, costing and routing.
Performs design activities, tests activities, troubleshoots problems, leads special projects, make MRB decisions, and support requests for quotes.
May, depending upon specific skills, participate in programing CNC machines such as lathes, mills, hobs, shapers, and gear grinders.
Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Leads assigned manufacturing engineering team, preparing work schedules, expediting work flow and collaborating with leadership (Value Stream Manager, Operations Director) to anticipate and resolve any problems related to safety, quality, delivery, cost, or efficiency (SQDCL) of the value stream & operations.

Education/Experience:
Lead: Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering from four year college or university, plus 10 years of work experience; Master’s Degree (M.S) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering and at least 8 years of work experience; 15 years of work experience programming machining centers in a manufacturing setting.
Demonstrated aptitude with mechanisms and/or electronics.
Previous experience implementing new manufacturing technology.
Understanding of complex assemblies of machined components and/or electrical equipment.
Prior work experience developing assembly processes to support manufacturing of parts & assemblies (preferred).
Experience writing and maintaining manufacturing planning for detailed parts, mechanical and electrical assemblies (preferred).
Experience in aviation, energy or similarly regulated industries (preferred).
Programming experience of 2-5 axis CNC machining centers and gear analyzers (preferred).
Certificates and Licenses:
Preferred: Lean and/or Six-Sigma Certification
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Lead of manufacturing engineers, possible supervision of production personnel.
Computer Skills:
Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in Windows XP, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and MS Dynamics-AX
At least 5 years of experience with CAD programs such as Solid Works.
Language, Math, and Reasoning Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, procedure manuals, professional journals, government regulations, and technical procedures.
Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, top management, and employees of the organization.
Ability to accomplish common mathematical calculations, in all units of measure.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area circumference and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, as well as trigonometry.
Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb/balance, reach, talk and hear, work near moving mechanical parts, and occasionally work near fumes or airborne particles.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment.
Work Environment:
The job duties that are affected by the environmental conditions are of a typical manufacturing environment and its equipment including occasionally working near fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Safety glasses and hearing protection are required when on the shop floor.
