Description Our client is a leading mortgage lending institution dedicated to providing our clients with comprehensive and customized mortgage solutions. Job Summary: The Mortgage Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating and verifying loan applications and determining whether the borrower has the ability to repay the loan. This role involves analyzing the financial status, credit history, property evaluations, and other risk factors to make informed lending decisions. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Review and verify loan applications to ensure all required documents and information are complete and accurate. Analyze borrower’s financial status, creditworthiness, and property evaluations to assess risk and eligibility. Evaluate and interpret credit reports, income documents, tax returns, and other financial statements. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and company guidelines, including federal, state, and local laws. Collaborate with loan officers, processors, and other team members to gather additional information or clarify discrepancies. Approve, suspend, or deny loan applications based on thorough analysis and sound judgment. Communicate underwriting decisions to loan officers and provide clear explanations for any conditions or requirements. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices. Provide training and guidance to entry level underwriters and support staff as needed. Requirements Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mortgage underwriting. In-depth knowledge of mortgage loan products, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements. Proficiency with mortgage underwriting software and tools. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
