Shire Financial System Senior Analyst in Exton, Pennsylvania

Primary Role :

The role will assist with maintaining Corporate Services Financial systems, with a primary focus on the administration of Blackline Financial Software. This position will work with system users across the globe with a goal to ensure that the Blackline system administration service and controls are performed with the highest quality. An accounting background will help ensure the person in this role is successful as the Blackline system is a financial close software package that is managed within the Process and Controls department at Shire. The knowledge of the financial close process will help the person in this role be successful. This person will be working in the program to perform daily actions and reporting. This position does not include building code for Software

Specifically, the role assists with:

  • Coordination of financial policy implementations and controls review

  • Managing user requests submitted via case management ticket tracking

  • Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders

  • Providing guidance for problems and questions

  • Independent research for solutions

  • Issuing Blackline control reporting as needed

  • Utilizing reporting to identify trends that needs to be actions and resolved

  • Ability to identify abnormalities and take action on these items

  • Proactive recommendations for software improvements

  • Testing of new functionality to ensure the outcome is as expected

  • Reconciling data interfaces between ERP systems and Blackline


90% Assist with maintaining the overall control and coordination of the business systems support processes by:

  • Ensuring timely and accurate processing of all BlackLine requests from global users (USCAN, EMEA, LATAM and APAC)

  • Performing daily system maintenance between Blackline and multiple ERP systems(SAP and JDE)

  • Participating in broader BlackLine related projects.

  • Making proactive recommendations to improve the benefits the software can supply

  • Reviewing system setting that get implemented globally- central administration

  • Ensuring BlackLine interfaces are tested regularly and are working well to avoid issues with month end.

  • Ensuring that policy changes are updated with in the system

  • Acting as subject matter expert for any issues relating to BlackLine.

  • Be proactive to make suggested improvements to all processes

  • Ability to identify abnormalities and take action on these items

  • Proactive recommendations for software improvements

  • Testing of new functionality to ensure the outcome is as expected

  • Reconciling data interfaces between ERP systems and Blackline

  • Manage loading ERP and other data into the BlackLine system as needed

  • Manage user additions and removals

  • Manage user security to the BlackLine system

10% Assisting with other adhoc projects that arise

Education & Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree Accounting

  • Experience and knowledge of BlackLine as a System Administrator/Local Administrator

  • 3+ plus years’ experience in Blackline Software systems

  • Good knowledge of ERP systems (strong preference for SAP and JDE)

  • Good working knowledge of Excel


  • MBA with technology-related emphasis preferred

  • Experience using BlackLine a plus

  • CPA preferred

  • Experience working on Blackline Software (i.e. configuration, system setup) strongly desired

  • Project management experience a plus

  • Experience of SAP and JDE is preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel is preferred

  • Work independently or as part of a team as necessary

  • Business degree in accounting or finance is preferred

  • Knowledge of Hyperion HFM is preferred

  • Determine enhancements to processes and implement them while maintaining strong internal control.
