**The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Employment and Training Services, is recruiting for anEmployment Services Technician 1 located in Fairbanks!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 14.

What You Will Be Doing: This Employment Services Technician (EST) 1 position provides Employment Services in the main customer service area of the Job Center: the Resource Room. These services include such tasks as:

  • Gathering personal information from job seekers pertaining to work history and job readiness, and determining skills, knowledge, abilities, qualifications, certifications and licenses through use of formal and informal interviewing techniques;
  • Making referrals to job openings, training opportunities, partner agencies and other services as appropriate;
  • Providing instructions and assistance to customers using services, systems and information available in the Resource Room;
  • Instructing job seekers one-on-one and in group settings in employability skills, job search strategies, completing applications, resume assistance, interviewing techniques, and labor market research
  • Providing assistance to employers in advertising and recruitment for positions, assisting with Job Fairs and assisting with candidate searches

The work week for this position is Monday - Friday, 7.5 hours per day between the hours of 8am - 5pm.

The Working Environment You Can Expect: The Employment Services Technician is stationed in the Fairbanks Regional Office Building (FROB), 675 7th Avenue, Station B. Our building has free covered parking with electrical plug-ins and sits adjacent to Veteran's Memorial Park in beautiful downtown Fairbanks. You will be located inside the newly remodeled Fairbanks Job Center (FJC). The FJC has a team-centered, professional working environment with an emphasis on exceptional customer service. FJC staff have strong core values and a solid commitment to the work we do, and we recognize that each individual has a specialized skillset that brings value to the team. This EST position is customer-service driven and involves extensive contact with the public and staff via phone, email, video communication, as well as face to face.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience such as providing employment services; coordinating training services; conducting skills assessments; making referrals to community support services; assisting individuals apply for federal/state financial assistance or benefits; providing services to the public; explaining policies, procedures, services, or requirements to the public; resolving customer complaints or problems; calculating costs, refunds, taxes, or benefits; providing written explanations, summaries, reports, or correspondence; or locating and inputting information into data systems such as reservation, ticketing, or application systems.
