Fairfield University Assistant Director of Career Development, Dolan School of Business in Fairfield, Connecticut
Job Description:
Provides career coaching to undergraduate and graduate students via individual meetings, workshops, and programming. Provides leadership for student programming and outreach for students interested in Finance, Economics, and International Business . Candidates with solid experiences and knowledge of financial services and related industries, including industry practices, career paths, and emerging trends are particularly encouraged to apply.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Career Coaching & Programming
Provide individual, comprehensive career coaching to undergraduate and graduate students
Promote career exploration opportunities, such as informational interviews, career panels and presentations, employer resume reviews, workshops, and networking events.
Teach internship/job search skills such as resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, networking, researching employers, and use of online tools in individual and group settings.
Develop and present career workshops and prepare related materials.
Instruct BUSN 1500: Career Readiness Seminar
Plan and coordinate finance, economics, and international business focused events and programs, including alumni panels, employer site visits, resume reviews, and networking events.
Serve as liaison to Economics, Finance, and International Business academic departments
Build and maintain connections with career-connected student groups to facilitate/build job and internship pipelines and host/offer events.
Employer & Alumni Engagement:
Develop and maintain effective contact with business, industry, and government employers to support and expand opportunities for internships and full-time employment
Collaborate with professionals-in-residence on employer and industry trends.
Compiles and distributes information weekly on full-time employment, internships, and part-time employment via e-mail to all interested students
Address identified gaps in student interests/qualifications and career opportunities available,
Assess employer recruiting needs, quality of recruiting services provided, and other employer-related data management to improve recruiting.
Develop and enforce policies for employer participation regarding acceptable methods of employer outreach/marketing, diversity recruiting efforts, and ethical and professional conduct.
Establish and enforce student participation guidelines, including recruiting deadlines, procedures, and schedules.
Research and stay informed on national, state, and local hiring practices, employment trends, and other labor-related issues
Special Requirements:
- Some evening and weekend work is required.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree. Master's degree (preferred)
Experience:
2-3 years of work experience
Financial services industry experience (preferred), talent acquisition, human resources, higher education, or related fields.
Demonstrated professional demeanor and tact when working with employers, students, alumni, or community partners
Understanding of the Jesuit tradition of education and a commitment to the fundamental values of service to others, community, and diversity
Knowledge of/experience with DEI practices for hiring and early talent pipelining (preferred)
Basic experience or knowledge of Handshake, career services management platforms, or CRM
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other computer software skills
Sensitivity to the needs of students and alumni
Active listener that can facilitate reflection to make meaning from experiences
Excellent self-direction, organizational, and time management skills
Team player and willing to collaborate on multiple projects as requested
