Farmingdale State College seeks a full-time ESL faculty member to teach in the LIEOC's Department of English for International Students. The successful candidate will be experienced and adept at teaching reading, writing, speaking, listening, and grammar at all levels to adult ESL students and may be expected to teach in multiple formats including hybrid, online, and traditional face-to-face classes.

All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, scholarly activity, and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and high level of competence in teaching. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of engagement in scholarly activities which promotes professional growth and indicates a dedication to remaining current on trends and best practices within the field. The service component of the workload includes student advisement as well as active participation on departmental, school, college-wide, and system-wide committees.

The LIEOC full-time teaching obligation is 16 hours per week. This is a ten-month tenure-track position.

    Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master's Degree in TESL/TEFL, Applied Linguistics with ESL focus, or related field.

  • At least three years of experience teaching ESL/EFL in adult-education, higher-education, and/or IEP settings.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience using remote instructional technologies.

  • Willingness to teach mornings or evenings and to travel to satellite locations.

  • Ability to teach in person and virtually.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree in TESL, Applied Linguistics, or related field.

  • At least five years of experience teaching ESL/EFL in adult-education, higher-education, and/or IEP settings.

  • Knowledge of TABE Clas-E.

  • Proficiency in more than one language.

  • Experience using Brightspace or similar platform for course delivery.

    Additional Information:

This is a 10-month UUP faculty position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Friday, December 13, 2024, and ending Friday, December 27, 2024, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • SALARY: $65,000 + $3,400 in downstate location pay = $68,400 Total Compensation.

  • ANTICIPATED START DATE: Spring semester 2025
