Farmingdale State College is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Nursing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarly research, and service, contributing to the advancement of the nursing profession and the growth of the department. The Assistant Professor will be expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate nursing courses, engage in scholarly activities, and participate in service to the university, community, and profession.

All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and high level of competence in teaching. Candidates should have a research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty resulting in peer-reviewed publications and presentation, both of which are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College. The service component of the workload includes student advisement as well as active participation on departmental, school and college-wide committees.

A Doctorate in Nursing or a related field is required to be considered for tenure.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate nursing courses in accordance with program curriculum.

  • Develop and deliver engaging, evidence-based instructional content in traditional and/or online formats.

  • Advise and mentor students, providing academic and career guidance.

  • Participate in curriculum development and review to ensure the nursing program meets the needs of students and the healthcare field.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and caring learning environment.

  • Maintain regular office hours and support students outside of class time.

Scholarship:

  • Develop and maintain an active program of research/scholarship in nursing, including grant writing, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at professional conferences.

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students on research initiatives.

  • Pursue opportunities for external funding to support research and innovation in nursing practice.

  • Engage in scholarly activities that contribute to the advancement of nursing knowledge, practice, and education.

Service:

  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

  • Participate in faculty meetings, departmental activities, and interdisciplinary collaborations.

  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of the nursing program through active engagement in accreditation, program review, and policy development.

  • Engage in community outreach and professional service activities that enhance the reputation and mission of the nursing program and the college.

    Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Science Degree in Nursing.

  • Current RN licensure in New York State or eligibility for licensure.

  • Ability to teach effectively in nursing education at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

  • Strong potential for an active and sustained research program in nursing or a related field.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or equivalent terminal degree in a related field.

  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in nursing education (preferred at the undergraduate and/or graduate level).

  • Recent experience in nursing/education and or nursing practice.

  • Demonstrated record of scholarship, including publications, presentations, and research funding.

  • Familiarity with innovative teaching strategies, including online and hybrid course delivery.

  • Experience advising students and participating in service activities at the departmental or college level.

    Additional Information:

This is a 10-month UUP faculty position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Tuesday, January 7, 2025, and ending Tuesday January 21, 2025, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Wednesday, February 5, 2025

  • SALARY (Master's): $72,500 + $4,000 in downstate location pay = $76,500 Total Compensation.

  • SALARY (Doctorate): $75,000 + $4,000 in downstate location pay = $79,000 Total Compensation.

  • ANTICIPATED START DATE: Fall semester 2025
