Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.

Agricultural Research Development and Education Center ( ARDEC ) is a comprehensive research, education, and outreach facility utilized by approximately 50+ faculty in the Departments of Animal Sciences, Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management, Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Soil and Crop Sciences, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Biology, and USDA / ARS scientists. Animal Science operations and facilities include a feed intake unit, seedstock cowherd, sheep unit, feedlot, commodity storage, grazing lands, forage production, livestock handling facility, metabolic research facility, and supporting infrastructure.

The livestock activities are managed by the Livestock Unit Manager. Plant Science operations and facilities include a general processing facility, shop(s), grain storage, pesticide and fertilizer storage, equipment storage and is comprised of 955+/- acres in two locations within 5 miles of each other. Farms are mostly irrigated cropland used by programs in crops, soils and pest management. The plant science activities are managed by the Plant Science Manager. ARDEC hosts many tours, events, educational courses and outreach opportunities at the ARDEC Headquarters office, Conference Center and the CoBank Center for Agricultural Education.

Position Summary

Temporary or Special part-time or full-time, year round or limited time period appointment Research Associate Level I or II positions may become available throughout the year. Complete applications will automatically be considered for open positions as they become available.

Required Job Qualifications

Research Associate Level I( RAI ) is an entry-level position for individuals with a bachelor’s degree or commensurate specialized experience and/or training and less than 3 years of professional experience.

Research Associate Level IIincludes individuals with an RAI appointment + 3 years experience or bachelor’s degree + 3 years of professional experience, or a Master’s degree.

Additional qualifications and salary determined by specific position to be filled.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the start date of the position. ARDEC will not provide visa sponsorship for these positions.
