Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Campus Recreation, an auxiliary unit in the Division of Student Affairs, provides wellness and healthy lifestyle oriented programs, events, and services to Colorado State University students and employees via seven programmatic areas: Student Recreation Center, Aquatics, Fitness, Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Outdoor Program, and Climbing Wall. Eight service units – Membership Services, Business Office, Information Technology, Communications/Marketing, Facility Scheduling/Event Management, Custodial Services, Equipment Management, and Maintenance – support the program functions to provide seamless customer service to CSU students, employees, and their families. Campus Recreation facilities, programs, and services promote a sense of community, support student development through leadership and employment opportunities, and encourage the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle to a diverse University population. Campus Recreation employs 34 career staff, up to 50 part-time staff, and 300+ student staff who are committed to providing a safe, welcoming space to CSU community members from all backgrounds and fitness levels. Position Summary

This position provides a wide range of custodial services for Campus Recreation. This position serves as the custodian supervisor overseeing all custodial positions in Campus Recreation (1 Day Lead custodian, 1 Night Lead Building Services Technician II , 1 Day custodian, 1 Night custodian, 2 Building Services Technician I).

Required Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or GED )

  • 6 years of progressively responsible experience with custodial work

  • 3 years of supervision of full-time staff

  • Experience creating and tracking budgets

  • Experience with Outlook, Work, Excel

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license by the position start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • 8 years of progressively responsible experience with custodial work

  • 5 years of supervision of 4 or more full-time staff

  • Experience with Microsoft Teams

  • Experience creating and implementing large cleaning projects

  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing cleaning equipment

  • Supervisor over 2 Custodian I’s, 1 Custodian II, 1 Building Services Technician II, and 3 Building Services Technician I’s employees to plan and oversee training, mentoring, and work with new and existing employees on above tasks.

  • Document staff performances, write evaluations, conduct performance evaluations and corrective meetings as needed

  • Plan development opportunities for staff to learn more skills

This position provides a wide range of custodial services including but not limited to:

  • Cleaning and sanitizing locker rooms and restrooms

  • Removal of trash and recycle materials from building

  • Window glass cleaning using cleaners and squeegees

  • Carpeted and hard floor maintenance including:

  • vacuuming carpets

  • spot cleaning carpets and tile floors

  • extracting of carpeted floors

  • mopping all floor surfaces

  • Deep scrubbing floors with chemical and buffers

  • Auto scrubbing floors with riding auto-scrubber or walk behind auto-scrubber (this includes indoor track area)

  • burnishing floors with a polishing machine

  • stripping tile floor with a stripper and buffers

  • refinishing of hard surface floors using buffers, auto-scrubbers, square scrubs and vacuums (this includes the main gym and studio floors)

  • Clean and sanitize using disinfectant

  • Walls

  • counters

  • furniture

  • Other surfaces as needed

  • Operate and maintain a variety of custodial equipment

  • Support for events and activities, provide access to facility as directed, landscaping and plant care, etc.

  • Wear personal protection while cleaning

  • Use genie lift to perform high dusting for ledges, art work, light fixtures, windows and fans

  • Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for the above tasks.
