The Laboratory Animal Care Technician is responsible for maintaining the well-being of animals in accordance with all standard operating procedures (SOPs), applicable state and federal regulations, as well as guidelines set forth by the veterinary team.

Responsibilities

Performs routine husbandry (food, water, cleaning pens) for various animal species. Performs general room cleaning procedures, animal husbandry sanitization and water monitoring. Ensures animals have adequate space, safe and secure housing, and appropriate enrichment. Monitors temperature and humidity in animal rooms and reports HVAC Ensures animals' well-being, health and sanitation is adequate by completing daily animal welfare checks and documenting animal husbandry records Provides animal transportation for acquisition and disposal. Assists with stocking vet care supplies, monitoring for expiration, and notifying appropriate employees of items that need to be ordered. Reviews study protocol and notebook prior to study initiation. Participates in pre-study meetings as necessary. Performs feed, bedding, and animal facility inventory maintenance. Performs pest monitoring for rodents and insects. Learns to perform daily observations and recording into the electronic data capture system or on paper records. Learns to restrain a variety of animal species.

Other Follows all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other applicable laboratory or company policies and procedures. Maintains confidential information. Supports and participates in company initiatives as directed. Ability to read/write English and understand scientific protocols and reports. Performs periodic review of all applicable SOPs to ensure accuracy and confirm procedures are being performed according to SO. Completes training requirements as assigned and maintains appropriate training documentation. Maintains compliance and adheres to all safety regulations, policies, and procedures and good documentation practices. Develops a thorough knowledge and ensures compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Association of Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC), Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW), and other applicable regu Performs other duties as assigned.

Demonstrates an ability to follow detailed instructions with a sense for scientific methods. Minimum Requirements High School diploma or equivalent. AALAS Certification or commitment to attaining certification within 18 months of start date. Willingness to participate in continual training opportu ities. Exhibits an aptitude for quality, an eye for detail, the ability to follow written instructions and work with a minimum of supervision. Preferred Qualifications Animal handling experience preferred

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and move heavy equipment in a safe manner
