Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Analytical Resources Core ( ARC ) is an institutional core facility at CSU . The mission of the ARC is to serve as an enabling resource for research and development programs at Colorado State University. We strive to build instrumental capabilities and expertise that exceed the normal resources of individual research programs, and make those technologies available as a shared resource. We also aim to provide an environment rich in expertise and educational resources, and to foster collaboration across the CSU community and beyond.

Position Summary

The RA II will contribute to essential business operations of the ARC through the following activities:

  • Operation of mass spectrometry instrumentation housed in the ARC facility, in support of ARC mission and services. Responsibilities will include preparation of samples (extraction), instrument maintenance and/or repair, user training and support, and mass spectrometry data acquisition and quality control.

  • Management of mass spectrometry-related projects.

Independently perform assay development, data analysis and report generation.

  • Organize and track ordering of supplies and consumables and work with accounting staff to ensure accurate invoicing for services.

  • Act as direct supervisor/mentor of undergraduate student employees.

Required Job Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in a related field such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or other relevant field.

  • 3 years of laboratory and/or analytical instrumentation experience.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in any of the following analytical techniques: mass spectrometry, gas and/or liquid chromatography, assay development, instrument maintenance and repair, protein and/or metabolite extraction, derivatization, and protein digestion.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform instrument operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and or repairs.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to interface with members of the scientific research community and to interact with customers or clients in a service environment.
